Notes from the Winery:

This is the varietal that we believe will increasingly be recognized as the icon varietal of Washington State and comprises the majority of our production. This Cabernet is stylish, elegant, and impeccably balanced. We accomplish this by meticulous viticultural management, utilization of a rare sorting system, gentle handling of the fruit and the wine, customized practices for every lot no matter how small, and carefully selected French oak.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The fruit for the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley came from the Sagemoor and Red Mountain vineyards. The wine is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc aged in 60% new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports a fragrant perfume of toasty oak, mineral, cassis, violets, and blackberry. Round, rich, and concentrated on the palate, this lengthy effort will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and will offer optimum drinking from 2013 to 2023." - Jay Miller (Aug 2011)

93 Points & "Cellar Selection" - Wine Enthusiast Magazine
(2007 vintage):
"This is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Thick and dense, it’s a perfect companion to the winery’s current release of Merlot, though they are a year apart in vintage. This Cabernet has slight intimations of herb and black olive, and is tightly focused with very dark cassis and plum fruit flavors. It’s a wine to cellar, as it is still a little hot and tightly wound." — P.G. (12/31/2010)

92+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2006 vintage):

"Medium red. Enticing aromas of currant, cherry, mocha, lavender and sweet oak. Lush, suave and seamless, with mineral and spice notes giving definition to the middle palate and leavening the impression of volume. Finishes uncompromisingly dry, subtle and long, with captivating perfume and perfectly integrated tannins." -Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec 2009)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2006 vintage):
"Delicious and immediately appealing with fresh strawberry and Bing cherry fruit, leading into sweet toasty oak and the precisely detailed tannins that characterize John Abbott’s winemaking. The old vine fruit brings subtle grace notes as the wine moves through the palate—a dash of pepper, a whiff of herb, a brambly old vine finish with a hint of black tea."
 -P.G. (8/1/2009)

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2006 vintage):
"Ripe, supple and expressive, offering a mouthful of tobacco-accented cherry, currant and floral aromas and flavors that sail effortlessly over modest tannins into the long, balanced finish. Drink now through 2014. 2,800 cases made."
