93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Quimera is a blend of 40% Malbec, 22% Merlot, 20% Cabernet
Sauvignon, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (a blend of
all the traditional Bordeaux grapes except Carmenere). A glass-coating
opaque purple, it delivers a superb nose of toasty black fruits and
floral aromas leading to a rich, complex, savory wine that has terrific
density combined with elegance, excellent concentration and volume, and a
seamless finish. This pleasure-bent effort can be cellared for another
2-3 years and will be in its prime from 2012 to 2018. Achaval Ferrer is now firmly established as one of Argentina’s benchmark producers." (12/2010)
90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:"Dark and winey, delivering anise, plum sauce and mulled currant fruit carried by a dark graphite note. The long finish stretches out as this airs in the glass, with enough racy fruit to offset the slight raisined hint. Drink now. 3,073 cases made." –JM (10/15/2010)
Focus on ArgentinaBy Stephen Tanzer of International Wine Cellar
"My
tastings of new releases from Argentina turned up a higher percentage
of well-made wines than ever before, thanks in part to an extended run
of very good to excellent vintages. My annual coverage features a
generous selection of stunning values in the under-$20 range, as well as
a growing number of world-class higher-priced items. In addition to
malbec, cabernet sauvignon and torrontes stood out in my tastings this
year."

The long, lingering finish lets a black tea note chime in. Delicious. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2011. 5,280 cases made." –JM (7/31/2009)
90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2007 vintage):"($50; 38% malbec, 24% merlot, 24% cabernet sauvignon and 14% cab franc) Full medium ruby. Aromas of crushed blackberry, licorice, chocolatey oak and clove oil. Supple, sweet and full, but with lively acidity giving excellent delineation to the fresh blackberry and spice flavors. With its polished tannins and note of fruity peppercorn, the finish shows excellent lift." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb '10)
