About This Wine:
About Alana Estate
Alana Estate was established in 1992 by a group of shareholders headed by Ian and Alana Smart. Encompassing 55 acres of land, 42 acres of which are in planted vines, and located on the northern edge of the Martinborough Terrace, this estate is believed to be the driest location in Martinborough. The site is cool with well-drained deep stony soil making growing conditions ideal for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The original vision of producing premium wines has been with Alana Estate since its inception and is true today. Viticulture and wine making practices are hands on - hand picked, hand sorted, handcrafted. A state of the art gravity fed winery allows for gentle handling of the fruit in the winery.
THE NOSE
Lifted tropical fruits, melons & pineapples. Rolling into cut grass and fresh herbs, and hints of lemon sherbet.
THE PALATE
Zesty citrus with white stone fruits. Hints of gooseberry rolling into a full layered palate finishing with a lovely balance of texture, weight and clean refreshing finish.
WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS
We selected small parcels from the southern Waihopai Valley ridge and harvested them at different times and levels of ripeness. This gave us a range of flavor profiles from which to blend. The assemblage of this wine has resulted in a multi-layered wine with great texture and flavors.
