Notes from the Winemaker:

Vega Sicilia's managing director, Pablo Alvarez, calls Alion "a wine somewhere between a Ribera del Duero and a Medoc in style." It is made from 100% Tempranillo from 15- to 20-year-old vines. After alcoholic and malolacitc fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is transferred to 100% new French oak from the Nevers forest. After 12-14 months in oak, the wine undergoes further aging in bottle before release.

"The 2007 Alion continues the winery’s string of outstanding vintages. It is 100% Tempranillo with malolactic fermentation in barrel followed by aging in new French oak. On the palate it displays impressive volume, a smooth texture, layered flavors, and a lengthy, seamless finish.
