The 2007 growing season had little rainfall and an early budbreak in the spring. The pleasant summer produced ripeness right in step with sugar development. Small berry size combined with low yields concentrated flavors and color. These characteristics exhibit a rich fruit signature with firm structure.
Arissa Jane is the second project of prestigious Pinot Noir producer Adrian Fog Winery. The artistically-produced work of partners Jane Farrell and Stewart Dorman, Arissa Jane is an expressive blend full of big red cherry and ripe raspberry notes with a hint of spice and a smoky finish. This wine is a compilation of two prime Sonoma Coast vineyards. We source the fruit from two different clones and soil types off the Sonoma Coast appellation. The first, clone 115, comes from adobe soil which is heavy clay and almost black, found at sea level and contributes to the concentration of the wine. The second, clone 667, comes from light sandy soil mixed with a bit of small stone, lending complexity to the wine. Aged 11 months in new and seasoned tight grained, medium toast French oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.
Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:"Bright medium red. Sexy red and dark berry preserves on the nose, with a suave potpourri quality adding complexity. Sweet, expansive aromas of smoky black raspberry and candied rose are given spine by tangy minerality and pack a potent punch-actually, this focused wine jabs more than it punches. The brisk, persistent finish repeats the red fruit and floral notes and shows very good clarity and spiciness. This is a new project from the Adrian Fog team." -Josh Raynolds (May/June 2010)
Adrian Fog Named Top 15 Pinot Noir Producer by Wine Spectator Magazine
"15 California Pinot Noirs"
The 2007 vintage for Golden State Pinot may be the best the state has ever seen
"2007 is probably the best Pinot Noir vintage across the map in California’s history. 2008 will be more variable, and generally quality will be down a notch or two for most producers—a great reason to stock up now on the last of the 2007s.
This group of 2007s features some steady big-name wineries from throughout the state that specialize in Pinot—a trio from Patz & Hall, one from Martinelli, two from Merry Edwards and a pair from Talley, which farms Pinot in Arroyo Grande. Also be on the lookout for another winner from Londer and its estate Pinot; Amphora, Richard Mount’s and Rick Hutchinson’s label that produced a tremendous Russian River bottling; Fog Dog, the Joseph Phelps Sonoma Pinot from
its Occidental vineyard; and
Adrian Fog, from Anderson Valley grapes." - James Laube, March 1, 2010
Wine Spectator Magazine:"Tart sour cherry and wild berry fruit is tight and mouthwatering, medium- to full-bodied, and focused and persistent on the finish. Drink now through 2014. 423 cases made." –JL (8/31/2009)
