Winemaker’s Notes:For those of you not yet in the know, this Pinot’s moniker, Rita’s Earth, is our nick name for our appellation, Sta. Rita Hills. I think it’s especially fitting with this wine since the Sta. Rita Hills has become synonymous with the notion of good Pinot Noir, and since this bottling has become our flagship wine.
It is a less intense, easy to drink version of some of the trophy, estate Pinots we have made. But it still has the kind of character that has prompted many growers over the last few years in the Sta. Rita Hills to plant more grapes.
This wine is very succulent, complex and rewarding; and I think, at least to some degree, it’s a sign of Pinot Noir vines that are now fully mature in our vineyards. The nose and mouth are full of cherries and spice, which have become a very welcome standard.
