About This Wine:Numanthia is a gorgeous Spanish red wine made by Bodega Numanthia Termes in the region of Toro. It is 100% Tempranillo, known here as Tinto de Toro. Numanthia takes its name from the people of Numancia, who heroically resisted the Roman legions in the first century B.C. The vineyards are located on the south bank of the Duero river.
The Spanish wine guide Guia Proensa rated this wine 96 points for the 2001 vintage. The 2003 vintage was rated 96 points by Parker and 95 by Wine Spectator, the 2004 was rated 98 points by Robert Parker!
What Does It Taste Like?
Numanthia is deep ruby red with aromas of cassis, blackberry, cedar,
spice, coffee, and mineral notes. It is full-bodied with moderate
acidity and firm tannins. Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, it
serves up potent flavors of blackberry, black currant, chocolate,
spice, and toasty oak. Powerful, layered and complex, it will reward
cellaring for another 10-12 years. It is rich and intense on the long
finish.
Ratings & Reviews
94+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2007 Numanthia is marginally more approachable but it, too, is a dense, layered, voluminous, structured wine. Given the requisite cellaring, it will eventually become both elegant and powerful.
Bodegas Numanthia-Termes was sold by the Eguren family to Moet-Hennessey prior to the 2006 vintage. What this might ultimately mean for quality or style of the wine remains to be seen but there is no questioning the performance of the 2006 and 2007 vintages." - Jay Miller (4/2010)

Wine Spectator Magazine:
This rich red brims with ripe, fresh flavors of blackberry and cassis, backed by toasty chocolate and dried spice notes that caress the palate and linger on the finish. Plush yet structured, in the modern style. Drink now through 2014. 1,000 cases imported. –TM, Feb. '10

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:"Opaque purple. Higher-pitched than the Termes, displaying scents of spicy red berries, cherry and rose, plus a hint of smokiness. Juicy, strikingly fresh red fruit flavors are lifted by tangy minerality and are framed by silky tannins. Distinctly graceful for a wine with such serious palate impact, showing building spiciness on the long, sappy, focused finish. I suspect that this wine will be drinkable on the young side but it's balanced to age." - Josh Raynolds (Sep/Oct '10)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Stocky, dark and pure, with inky aromas of shoe polish, black fruits and charcoal. The palate is brawny and tannic, with saturated blackberry, espresso and bitter chocolate flavors. It’s rowdy but also attractive and full of everything good including chocolate, spice and pepper on the finish. Drink from 2011 through 2015." — M.S. (12/15/2010)
