About this wine:The Cambria Estate is situated on some prime real estate on the Santa Maria Bench with Julia's Vineyard right at the heart of it and this unique location greatly contributes to the character of the wine.
Nestled in the Santa Maria Valley just 15 miles from the Pacific, it's a large east-west oriented valley that acts as a funnel for cool ocean breezes. The moderating effect of the ocean air and the ancient, alluvial sandy-loam soils result in Pinot grapes with distinct characteristics and a wine with the same sense of individuality.
What Does It Taste Like?
The 2009 Julia's Pinot Noir has aromas of red cherry, plum and rose petal. The supple, juicy entry and palate texture is held in check by a firm structural element.
Ratings and Reviews
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:"The 2009 Pinot Noir Julia’s Vineyard flows from the glass with layers of sweet candied fruit, raspberries, flowers and spices. The Julia’s is impressive for its expressive varietal character and excellent balance, both quite an achievement for a wine with a 60,000 case production. This was fermented in oak barrels (27% new) and aged on its lees with batonnage for seven months. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014." - Antonio Galloni (Aug 2011)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2008 Vintage):"I’ll keep my tasting notes on Cambria’s Pinot Noirs short, since the only wine produced in acceptable commercial quantities is the Bench Break. The rest are experimental, small lots, all of them solidly made wines emphasizing the red currants, strawberry, and sweet and sour cherry notes as well as the minerality of Pinot Noir. I didn’t see as much difference in the clonal choices as one might expect, although the alcohol percentages ranged widely." - Robert Parker (Aug 2010)
