Winemaker's Tasting Notes Wild Thing is named for its attitude, and also for the uninoculated, or “wild,” yeast ferment used to create it. It takes a whip and a chair to tame its wild fruit, but it is worth the trouble. As my husband likes to say, “It has all the right curves in all the right places.”
Black raspberry fruit, vibrant and alive in both nose and mouth, nice oaky-smokiness, hit of black pepper. Smoothly textured in mouth, the finish is long and lushly jammy fruit—dangerously good!

91 Points & "Good Value" - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:
"Ms. Shelton continues her string of great success with this Zinfandel from Mendocino County. It offers up both ripeness and fruit, but its ripeness results in volume, not in excess, and in the wine's aromas and flavors are spot on in their delivery of varietal berries kissed with just the right amounts of enriching vanilla-bean oakiness. Full in body, supple and built on a base of youthful tannins, this wine finds perfect balance for its style and is sure to please for many years to come." Reviewed: January 2011
90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Dense and appealingly untamed, with black cherry, underbrush and bold anise aromas that lead to powerful boysenberry, licorice and cedary clay flavors. Tannins tighten the finish. Best from 2012 through 2016. 1,208 cases made." –TF (May 31, 2011)
