Notes From The Winemaker:

This vineyard sits within a stone’s throw of some very well known St. Helena vineyards and it shows why with an immediate attack of the senses. A dark ruby color leads a nose that is full and rich with dark fruit galore soaring from the glass alongside a slight earthiness and hints of pie crust. On the palate the above notes are covered in a velvety texture and subtle oak overtones from fine French barrels. Full bodied and muscular but amazingly fine tannins glide the fruit, spice and leather undertones through a powerful rich finish that last for minutes. Definitely a candidate for the cellars - look for this wine to smooth out and integrate within 2-3 years and provide immense pleasure for 10 years and beyond.

The History of the Revilo Vineyard
Revilo Vineyard is located off of Silverado Trail by the Meadowood Resort and a stone’s throw away from some of St. Helena’s famous vineyards.  Its clayey soil was farmed and named after Reg Oliver, (Revilo backwards), the owner of El Molino Winery who passed away in 2004. While you might know of El Molino for their stellar Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, Reg did an incredible job farming his Cabernet vineyard, and his daughter Lily continues the tradition.  Their efforts helped pave the way for Carter Cellar's great success with the Revilo label.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Tight and unevolved, yet displaying many attractive traits, from the mix of smoky, toasty, cedary oak to the core of pure, ripe currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit. Firm and full-bodied, with fine structure and depth, ending with a roasted espresso bean aftertaste. Drink now through 2022."—J.L. (Aug 31, 2011)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Revilo Vineyard exhibits a floral/spring flower garden-like character in addition to sweet blueberry and black currant fruit, ripe tannin, medium to full body and a precocious, upfront appeal that makes it irresistible already. There is enough stuffing for 10-15 years of cellaring.

These are impressive efforts from proprietor Mark Carter." - Robert Parker (Dec 2010)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Very ripe and forward in fruit, this Cabernet floods the mouth with cherry fruit flavors, liberally enhanced with the sweet vanilla and toast of oak barrel aging. The tannins are strong but finely ground. Appeals now for sheer beauty."  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

89+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"(from the late Reg Oliver's vineyard in St. Helena; Revilo is Oliver spelled backward; includes a bit of petit verdot):  Good dark red.  Dusty cherry and licorice on the nose, with some green notes of mint and herbs that mostly dissipated with air.  Then surprisingly sweet and pliant in the mouth, with menthol and mineral flavors currently overshadowing primary fruit.  Finishes with serious palate-saturating tannins.  There's a delicacy here, but the wine is currently in an awkward stage." - Stephen Tanzer (May/June '11)

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2007 vintage):
"This is a big, rich, dramatic Cabernet. The underlying fruit is spectacular, offering tiers of blackberries, black currants and cocoa, while 100% new French oak aging lends strong, but balanced, layers of toast. The tannins are ripe and sturdy, yet very finely ground. Really a beautiful example of the modern style, and should develop over the next six years."  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2007 vintage):
"($85; blended with 5% petit verdot) Bright, deep ruby-red. Cassis, minerals and spices on the nose and palate, along with a whiff of loamy earth. Then juicy and penetrating, with firm acidity serving to intensify the wine's flavors. Not yet complex but already offers considerable sex appeal. Good rising finish. Mark Carter bottles his wines without fining or filtration." - Stephen Tanzer (May/June '10)
