About This Wine:

CONDITIONS OF THE YEAR AND HARVEST:
The 2005-2006 season was quite normal but late summer temperatures  were cooler and resulted in a growing season that was drier and colder than the past seven years. There was no rainfall during harvest; but due to the cooler temperatures throughout, the primary challenge of the 2006 vintage was the extended hang-time in order for each variety to reach proper phenolic maturity. This extension of the season conserved the fruit and allowed for good concentration with soft,  well-rounded tannins. Cold nights at the beginning of April preserved the natural fruit acidity and lively expression. On the other hand, we were lucky that conditions remained stable and a dry autumn allowed us to wait patiently to harvest ripe  fruits at the level of maturity we were looking for. Our sixth crop of Syrah confirms that this varietal is performing very well on the round stones of our Las Kuras “terroir”.

Vinification:
• 32% of the grapes were manually hand de-stemmed. The remaining 68% had a double selection in long sorting tables.
• Must underwent 5 days cold maceration at 10° before fermentation.
• Fermentation lasted 15 days at 25ºC to 28°C with wild yeast.
• Post fermentation skin contact for 7 to 12 days.
• All the wine was aged 23 months in new (45%) and used (55%) French oak barrels.
• Bottled in July 2008 with a production of 2.050 9 liter cases.

What Does It Taste Like?

Color: Inky and black purple-red.
Nose: Expressive notes from Alto de Cachapoal, beginning with white and black pepper, rich meatiness and black and red fruit.
MOUTH: Round and pleasant attack with rich and velvety tannins that fill the mid palate and leave a long and pleasant sensation. Some elegant oak touches come later at the finish. Very pleasant and balanced wine.
Service and Food Pairing: Enjoy with spiced meats and also stews, beef, lamb, game or boar. D ecant and serve at 18°C.

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A big, broad-shouldered wine, with dark plum, blueberry, fig and warm cocoa notes that manage to stay fresh and driven through the long, velvety finish. Drink now through 2011. 2,000 cases made." –JM  (6/30/2009)
