About This Wine:
 
Roero is the name of both the wine and the cradle from which it springs: a cluster of hills in 19 municipalities all on the left bank of Tanaro, are devoted to this son of "Nebbiolo" (95%) ennobled by "Arneis" (2-5%) and other varieties. It is said that the Savoys, the noble dynasty that from their kingdom in Piedmont became the rulers of Italy from mid 1800’s to 1946 had a particular interest for wine growing region. Charles Albert in particular, were so taken with this delicate, fragrant wine loosely called "nebbiolino" - that they bought a couple of vineyards on these hillsides so as to have grapes with which to make Roero in the royal cellars at Pollenzo. Iin hindsight, the Savoys should have stuck to wine appreciation rather becoming national monarchs. This fascination has survived unchanged.

"The 2008 Roero Audinaggio is flat-out delicious; in fact it is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Ca-Rossa. The bouquet alone is beautiful. Sweet roses, flowers of all types, cherries and licorice emerge from this silky, refined Nebbiolo. I find gorgeous mid-palate sweetness and depth in an elegant, refined style that could easily be mistaken for a Barbaresco from the famous Asili vineyard.
