Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Bright red. Black raspberry and floral aromas are complemented by Asian spices, anise and white pepper. Racy, finely etched red berry and cherry flavors stain the palate and become deeper and sweeter with air. Shows no rough edges and finishes with superb focus and sweet, sappy persistence. This puts most Chateauneufs in the shade." - Josh Raynolds (Jan/Feb '10)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2007 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone is outstanding. Revealing plenty of licorice, tapenade, black cherry, and raspberry characteristics in its lovely, rich, medium to full-bodied personality, it can be drunk now or cellared for 10-12 years." - Robert Parker (Oct 2008)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Dark and winey up front, with a streak of mesquite running through the core of crushed plum, macerated black currant fruit and anise notes. Turns silky and perfumy on the long, lingering finish. Drink now through 2013. 250 cases imported." –JM
(Oct 15, 2011)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
('06 Vintage):
"Medium red. Spicy, inviting bouquet of strawberry and redcurrant, with sexy notes of potpourri and cola. Sappy, finely etched red berry flavors are deepened by cola and sassafras qualities. Very complex Cotes du Rhone with excellent finishing clarity and thrust." -Josh Raynolds, (Jan/Feb '09)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
('06 Vintage):
"Tasting through the different components that go into the 2006 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone, it’s clear this is going to be an outstanding, soft, forward, fruit-driven vintage that is very pure, with outstanding intensity of fruit, low acidity, and ripe tannin. Of course, a big percentage of this wine atypically is Cinsault, about 35% in most years, and the Cinsault is gorgeously pure, fragrant, and intense. The Grenache component looked terrific, as did the Syrah. Although it is not yet in bottle, it certainly will merit a score in the low nineties.

This great estate has been going through a transitional period, with some replanting in their vineyards, and of course the enormous challenge of replacing the legendary proprietor and winemaker, the late Jacques Reynaud, who passed away in the winter of 1997. Replaced by his nephew Emmanuel Reynaud, who had worked closely with his uncle, the early vintages, as I reported on in this publication, were good but hardly exciting. Reason to be concerned about the direction in which the estate was going was a legitimate worry. The 1998, 1999, and 2000 vintages were vintages where Rayas was well behind the pack of top producers in Chateauneuf du Pape. However, with that said, the tasting I did with Emmanuel Reynaud in late August was the best tasting I have done with him in a decade, and while it may be premature to say that Rayas is back to the greatness of Jacques Reynaud, Emmanuel has made some fabulous wines that are going to be released over the next several years." - Robert Parker (10/2007)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine
('06 Vintage):
"Very stylish, with elegant mulled red cherry, sandalwood and floral notes backed by a long, mineral-filled finish. A lingering hint of shiso leaf adds more length, with solid acidity. Drink now through 2014. 1,667 cases made." –JM (8/31/2010)
