About This Estate:

Stephen Adams was born in Minnesota. His father was a popular TV star and newspaper columnist in Minneapolis. But Stephen Adams went another direction in his life… After graduating from Yale University and getting an MBA from Stanford University, he started a career in finance. He soon bought a small bank in Green Isle, Minnesota. This was the start of a strong expansion with successive acquisitions of several local banks. In the late 80s, he sold the banks to venture into the distribution of RVs and RV equipment. It was a new success driven by aggressive and direct marketing policies, as well as by the arrival of the Internet and on-line sales.

In 1995, Stephen Adams embraced his passion: wine and vineyards. He bought his first wine venture in Dry Creek Valley, California. The property was later sold to his son Scott. But Adams wouldn’t stop there….He discovered the Bordeaux region in the 90s, soon after his wedding with Denise in Dordogne…Thus began his successive acquisitions in the Bordeaux area, including: Chateau Lagarosse in 2000, Chateau de Candale in 2002, Chateau Fonplégade in 2004 (the group’s flagship), Chateau de Bel Air in 2005 and Chateau Roylland and Chateau L’Enclos in 2007.

About This Wine:

90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Château Roc de Candale is a lively and concentrated wine offering lush aromas of cherry and vanillin oak, a layered mouthfeel, good tannic structure and a long, well balanced finish. Comprised of a blend of lots not used in Château de Candale, Roc de Candale was treated to the same vinification protocol. Individual lots were cold soaked in oak tanks for five days at 7 °C, with periodic pump overs and light punches to cap. The wine was fermented separately by lot and grape variety in thermo-regulated oak tanks for up to 45 days. Secondary (malolactic) fermentation took place, sur lie in barrel. The wine was barreled down separately by lot and varietal to preserve the integrity of the individual components for the final blend.

Ratings & Reviews

Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Fine tannins, dusty and sweet, play a major part in the success of this wine. It’s fruit, initially subdued by the tannins, then bursts through with cherry jelly, dark plums and an edge of licorice. It’s certainly rich, but it all hangs together well." - R.V. (6/1/2009)
