Notes from the Winemaker:

"Planted by vineyard manager Mimi Nye in 1991, our vineyard at Canoe Ridge Estate has grown before our eyes to produce more concentrated and opulent wines. This wine shows amazing intensity to go with ripe cherry fruit. The Canoe Ridge Estate Cab is a beautifully balanced wine that is a classic expression of Washington fruit."

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points & "Cellar Selection" - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A fine bottle — full, fleshy, immediately throwing out dense aromatics with toast and roasted coffee and bitter chocolate components. A deep vein of black cherry and cassis keeps the core tight and focused, and a small splash of Syrah adds the scent of black pepper."  — P.G.  (5/1/2011)

90 Points -
Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Supple, vibrant and appealing for its bright blackberry and cherry flavors, nicely shaded with spice and coffee notes. Lingers well. Drink now through 2018. 4,000 cases made." –HS (May 31, 2011)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2007 vintage):

"Bright medium ruby. Cassis, blackberry, graphite, mint, dark chocolate and licorice on the nose, with a slightly jammy quality emerging with aeration. Sweet, silky and gently concentrated, with a pliant texture and lovely depth to the berry, mint and chocolate flavors. Rich and impeccably balanced, with nothing forced about it. This sweet, graceful wine spreads out to coat the palate without communicating any undue weight. The tannins are at once fine-grained and firm." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec '10)

89+ Points -
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 vintage):
"The Cabernets begin with the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Canoe Ridge Estate which contains a dollop of Merlot and Malbec and was aged for 22 months in French and American oak. A dense purple color, it puts out a nose of spice box, violets, incense, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, intense wine with enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, very good balance, and a fruit-filled finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2022." - Jay Miller (Aug 2010)

92 Points & Rank #38 Top 100 of 2009 -
Wine Spectator Magazine (2006 vintage):
"Sturdy, ripe and generous, with a surprisingly soft edge to the explosive black cherry, currant, black olive and smoke flavors, lingering effortlessly on the big, round finish. Best from 2010 through 2018. 5,800 cases made." -HS

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2006 vintage):
"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Canoe Ridge Estate was sourced from vines planted in 1991. Purple-colored, it sports an alluring nose of cedar, cinnamon, allspice, violets, black currant, and blackberry. Layered, bordering on opulent, this full-flavored Cabernet has excellent density, savory flavors, ripe tannins, and plenty of length. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2011 to 2021. Chateau Ste. Michelle continues to demonstrate that a winery can be large and quality-oriented at the same time. Their current collection is as good as or better than anything it has done in the past."
