About This Wine:

Whispering Angel is the introductory wine to the Chateau’s line of Rose. Noted for its fresh, fruity yet bone dry characteristics, Decanter magazine suggests of the ’08 vintage that this is probably the most aptly named wine we’ve tasted this year, a wonderful acknowledgement unto itself.

Vineyards

Grapes are picked from the ripest vines on the property.Southern exposure.

Terroir

Chalky-clay slopes.

Grape Varieties

Grenache (73%), Rolle (4%), Cinsault (9%), Syrah (8.5%) and Mourvedre (5.5%).

Vinification

Harvesting at sunrise to noon by hand only in small crates to avoid oxidation. Grapes are then sorted electronically and manually 3 times. Destemming and slight crushing at 7-8°C to avoid coloration. Both the free run and pressed juices are vinifed in stainless steel. “Batonnage” is twice weekly. Temperature controlled.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2009 vintage):
"A rich and fruity rosé, with lots of lush cream and smoke notes behind the dark plum, white chocolate and glazed citrus flavors. Long, spicy finish. Drink now through 2013. 9,280 cases made." –KM (2010)

90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2008 vintage):
"grenache and rolle partially fermented in demi-muids Pale, bright pink. Dusty, floral-accented red fruits and tangerine on the nose, with notes of sage and anise adding complexity. Fat but dry, with incisive flavors of bitter cherry and orange pith spreading out on the back half. Rich but by no means exotic, finishing with good thrust and a lingering floral quality. Strikes a nice balance between the nerviness of the Whispering Angel and the baroque character of the Clans and Garrus. This should work well with a variety of strongly seasoned foods." - Josh Raynolds (July '10)
