Notes from the Winemaker:

The Horse Heaven Hills, which have been home to Columbia Crest for more than two decades, are the source and inspiration behind our “H3” wines. The unique terroir of this appellation imparts remarkable fruit intensity with mineral undertones from the cooler vineyard sites, and slight earth and cocoa elements from the warmer sites. These variances allow our winemaker to blend wines that capture the true essence of the Horse Heaven Hills in the bottle.

"Aromatics of slight mineral, apple, pear, smoke and Horse Heaven Hills dust open this elegant yet racy, medium-bodied Chardonnay. A balanced palate of fruit and French oak leads to a seductive, creamy vanilla finish."
Ray Einberger, Winemaker

Ratings & Reviews

89 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Chardonnay Horse Heaven Hills is a bit more serious. Forty percent was barrel-fermented in new oak, 30% in seasoned barrels with the balance in stainless steel. Like the Grand Estates, it was aged for 6-9 months sur lie with weekly batonnage. It gives up aromas of buttered popcorn, pear, spiced apple, and mineral leading to a smooth-textured, ripe Chardonnay with very good volume and concentration. This well-balanced, lengthy effort should drink well for 2-3 years.

Columbia Crest, part of the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, is Washington’s largest winery. It produces mammoth amounts of wine (2,000,000+ cases) at a remarkably high level of quality. A visit to the cellars reveals brilliant organization, high morale, and a sense of personal involvement by the staff that undoubtedly adds value to the finished wine." - Jay Miller (Aug 2010)

89 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Ripe and generous, not heavy, but heady with spice-accented pear, honey and floral aromas and flavors, echoing nicely. Drink now. 37,000 cases made." –HS (Feb 28, 2010)

90 Points & "Smart Buy" -
Wine Spectator Magazine (2007 vintage):
"Vibrant and generous, with a spicy edge to the soft, ripe pear, cream and lime aromas and flavors, lingering on the expressive finish. Drink now through 2011. 20,000 cases made." -HS
