About This Wine:

There's Soave, and then there's true Soave. But you have to work for it—and to do so, you've got to climb some serious mountains.

The Dama del Rovere estate owns the highest cellars in the Veneto, tucked in the Tremenalto district that towers over the “lower” Soave vineyards at some 1,500 feet. Lake Garda shimmers to the west, while the Pra family's three generations work side by side to cultivate regional varietals that lazier local winemakers have long forgotten.
The soul of true Soave lies in the Garganega grape—an ancient Veronese varietal that when brought to heel, can produce wines of depth and lively acidity, with an exhilarating spiciness that enlivens the palate. (So much of insipid Soave is the fault of over-cropped, lesser Trebbiano—yet you won't find a drop in these wines.)

Close your eyes and inhale the chiseled, noble perfumes of this wine--you'd think you had a glass of cru Champagne in your hand. A great vintage and a monumental effort by the Pra family again has resulted in a unique Durello bubbly that simply has no peer anywhere. The crisp, lively Durello grapes for this invigorating sparkler hail from Soave's highest vineyards, more than 1,500 above sea level. Very old vines, very low yields and the Pra family's artisanal touch make this Brut chock-full of flavor and irresistible. Yeasty notes blend with white pepper and apple on the nose; the mouth is dry and lively, with citrus highlights.

Elegant sparkling wine that happens to be a steal December 5, 2010
Reviewer: Suzanne from Redwood City, CA United States
The 2008 Dama del Rovere "Brenton" Lessini Durello Spumante Brut is elegant and delicious. It is not "good for the price," as is often said of value priced wines.  It's GOOD, regardless of price. This sparkling wine holds its own alongside French Tete du Cuvee Champagne that costs several times as much.

Its elegance derives from its gorgeous underlying acidity and distinctive mineral notes. It is crisp and super clean, with a delicate, subtle nose of green apples, lemon, white flower and volcanic basalt mineral aromas which impressively carry through to the palate. The finish is medium-long and mouth-watering.

It is a great sparkling wine for entertaining, and to accompany virtually any food. This is the very definition of a food-friendly wine. It's a beautifully made sparkling wine and a noteworthy achievement at any price. It just happens to also be a bargain.
