Background
We are very pleased to represent Claude Dugat, who is widely considered one of the top producers in all of Burgundy. The property consists of 12 hectares and ranges from Bourgogne to Griottes-Chambertin where he owns .15 hectares.

All of the vineyards are farmed organically and only fertilized once every 4 years. This is done to strain the vines and naturally produce very low yields of outstanding fruit. All of the wines are fermented and aged in barrels for up to 16 months.

"The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin – 1er Cru is powerful, intense and round. The wine seems to explode in all directions with endless layers of fruit backed up by a solid core of structure. The 1er Cru shows terrific delineation and fabulous overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.

Claude Dugat farms 16 hectares, of which only 3 are owned. Dugat waited until September 20 to start harvesting. The fruit was 100% destemmed and spent 15 days on the skins with two punchdowns a day and no pumpovers. The wine was pressed, left 48 hours to decant and moved into barrel. The wines were racked the following April and were bottled with no fining or filtration. The Bourgogne were aged in neutral oak, the Villages and 1ers saw 50% new oak and the Grand Crus saw 100% new oak." - Antonio Galloni (May 2011)

"Good dark red.  Reticent, very dark aromas of black cherry, violet and licorice.  Juicy and gripping in the mouth but less harmonious than the village wine owing to its strong acidity.  More noteworthy today for its impressive energy than for its texture.  The wine's stuffing is currently suppressed by its dominant tannin/acid spine on the backward finish.  But this mounts impressively on the aftertaste." - Stephen Tanzer (Mar/Apr '11)

89-91 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A background touch of wood frames fairly aggressive reductive aromas that render the nose impossible to fairly judge. The earthy, intense and stony middle weight flavors though possess good energy on the tight, focused and notably firm but persistent finish. This will require a few years to unfold and flesh out."
