Notes from the Winemaker:

The 1988 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was the first wine produced in Oregon by the Drouhin Family. With the 2009, which marks the 22nd release, the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir has become a foundational element of many great wine lists and personal cellars. 95% of its fruit is produced on the family’s estate in the Dundee Hills, and the wine is vinified as all Drouhin wines are, with an eye towards elegance, balance and finesse.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2009 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley has alluring notes of cedar, cinnamon, clove, raspberry, and cherry that inform the nose of a ripe, supple-textured, elegant, nicely proportioned wine that will provide enjoyment over the next 6-7 years." - Jay Miller (Oct 2011)

90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Bright red.  High-pitched red berry and spice aromas are complicated by notes of candied rose, herbs and white pepper.  Suave, silky and precise, offering sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors and a deeper note of bitter cherry.  Nicely balanced and pure, with very good finishing clarity and length.  There's something almost Chambolle-like here." - Josh Raynolds (Jul/Aug '11)

91 Points -
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate ('08 Vintage):
"The 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley which contains 5% purchased fruit. Medium ruby in color, it gives up an alluring bouquet of cedar, cinnamon, incense, black raspberry, and black cherry that jumps from the glass. This leads to a dense, ripe, spicy, well-balanced wine with enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years (ageability being a significant trait of the vintage). This lengthy effort will be at its best from 2012 to 2020." - Jay Miller (Oct 2010)

91 Points & "Editor's Choice" -
Wine Enthusiast Magazine ('08 Vintage):
"Once again, the Burgundian touch of Veronique Drouhin has crafted a wine of surpassing elegance and immaculate structure. This is the antithesis of a jammy, California style yet it retains much of the vibrancy of New World fruit rather than the suppressed rusticity of Burgundy. Delicate cherry and tart plum fruit is sculpted into a wine with nuanced details of cola and coffee and spice."  — P.G.  (3/1/2011)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar ('08 Vintage):
"Bright ruby. High-pitched aromas of strawberry, raspberry, licorice, white pepper and Asian spices, plus a whiff of dried rose. Sappy, racy and pure, with sharply delineated flavors of red berries, cherry and spicecake. Comes across as very lively owing to an impression of high acidity. Youthfully tight wine, finishing with excellent purity and energy and a jolt of candied flowers. This will be even better for four or five years in the bottle." - Josh Raynolds (Jul/Aug '10)

90 Points & "Outstanding" - Allen Meadows' Burghound
('08 Vintage):
"A pretty if restrained nose blends both upper and lower register red and blue fruit aromas along with a touch of earth that can also be found on the rich, delicious and solidly complex flavors that culminate in a round yet well-delineated as well as an impressively persistent finish. This is really quite good for a so-called entry level wine. This is worth considering." (Jan 01, 2011)
