About this wine:

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: Domaine Faiveley purchased this plot of just over 1/2 acre in 2007. The 1er Cru Champs Fulliots vineyard sits in the heart of Monthelie's 1er Crus sharing a very similar terroir to the 1er Cru vineyards of Les Caillerets and Clos de Chenes which it directly borders. Exposure is to the south and soils an extremely shallow red clay lying directly above solid rock. Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a 18-20 day maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 30% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Ratings & Reviews

89-91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
Good medium bright red.  Piercing aromas of red fruits, rose petal and citrus zest.  Juicy and penetrating, with terrific clarity and lift to the red fruit and floral flavors.  Finishes long and perfumed, with fine tannins and excellent cut.  Like a little Volnay, and almost too easy to drink.  An outperformer." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb '12)

88-90 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A discreet hint of wood sets off a more complex and slightly riper mix of red currant and plum aromas that slide gracefully into energetic, clean, pure and intense medium-bodied flavors that deliver fine punch on the clean, dusty and agreeably dry finish." - (Jan 10, 2012)
