About this wine:

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: Monthelie 1er Cru Duresses is located on the southwest side of the appellation bordering the vineyards of Auxey-Duresses. Domaine Faiveley acquired this 1 acre plot in the heart of the vineyard in 2007. Soils here are a rich red clay and vines date back to 1956.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a 18-20 day maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Ratings & Reviews

87-90 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A moderately earthy nose also displays hints of stone and underbrush on the ripe dark berry fruit suffused aromas. There is good freshness and vibrancy to the solidly well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a fine level of dry extract. There is a very subtle touch of austerity to the delicious if mildly rustic finish." (Jan 12, 2012)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:

"Moderately saturated medium red.  Musky aromas of coffee and oak.  Creamy-sweet but with a lot of cinnamon oak showing.  A bit low-toned for a 2010 from this producer.  I wanted more depth of fruit.  Finishes slightly dry.  This vineyard needs a warmer year to shine." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb '12)
