About this wine:

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.

Terroir: 1er Cru Les Porêts St-Georges is a small vineyard of just 18 acres just south of the main village of Nuits-St-Georges. Domaine Faiveley farms a parcel of 4+ acres that lies along the vineyards southern border with Les Cailles. Sun exposure is to the east and soils are dark brown with limestone and granite gravel.

Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival at the domaine. Following a short maceration the must undergoes primary fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16 months.

Tasting Notes:
A deep ruby-red color. The nose has black fruit notes and woody, fiery aromas.  After a round and full attack, this wine proves powerful and full-bodied. It is well-balanced and of high quality, with good cellaring potential.

Ratings & Reviews:

89-92 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"Noticeable reduction renders the nose difficult to evaluate. By contrast there is excellent concentration to the powerful and broad-shouldered medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by very firm and ever-so-mildly rustic tannins on the intensely earthy finish. While this will not win any awards for elegance as Porrets St. Georges is almost always among the most tannic of the Nuits 1ers, it offers plenty of character in a decidedly ageworthy package." (Jan 10, 2012)

89-92 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:

"Good bright, deep red.  Black raspberry, pepper and spicy oak on the nose.  At once powerful and a tad rustic, with a strong raspberry flavor dominating the palate.  Hugely tannic and a bit tough today; this very backward wine will need at least several years in the bottle.  All of the Nuits-Saint-George premier crus here get 40% to 50% new oak." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb '12)
