About this wine:Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods
with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries
within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage,
benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each
bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir.
Terroir: The famous 1er Cru "Les Saint Georges" sits just north
of the village of Nuits Saint Georges and at just under 19 acres is one
of the largest 1er Crus in the appellation. Domaine Faiveley's parcel
is approximately .75 acres of old vines in the center of the vineyard.
The parcel has an eastern exposure, light grade and soil of light clay
and limestone.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and sorted upon arrival
at the domaine. Following a short maceration the must undergoes primary
fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and wooden vats. The
young wines are aged in 70% lightly toasted new oak barrels for 14 to 16
months.
Tasting Notes:A very beautiful dark ruby colour. The powerful nose has hot spice and ripe fruit notes. The bold and round attack is followed by a balanced palate with supple and generous tannins. The harmony and elegance of this wine do credit to this well-known Premier Cru.
Ratings & Reviews:93-96 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Good bright, full red. Knockout noble nose combines raspberry, blackberry, blood orange, mocha, white pepper, coriander and smoky oak. Wonderfully silky but youthfully imploded, with compelling verve and sharp definition to the urgent fruit and floral flavors. A wine of outstanding purity and cut, and very long and precise on the aftertaste. Hervet referred to this wine as "the king of the cellar in 2010." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb '12)
92-94 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"As is generally the case chez Faiveley, this is the most complex and most elegant of their ranges of Nuits 1ers with its wonderfully layered red berry fruit nose that enjoys added breadth from the underbrush, earth and subtle spice nuances. There is an admirable and seductive richness to the mouth coating, intense and altogether serious flavors that possess a firm but sophisticated texture, all wrapped in a beautifully balanced finish. This should amply reward at least 15 years of cellar time." (Jan 10, 2012)
