Background
Fernand Léchenaut bought the 22-hectare Domaine in the 1960’s. Based mainly in the Côte de Nuits region, the estate is spread through the appellations of Nuit-St-Georges, Morey-St-Denis, Vosne Romanée and Chambolle Musigny. In addition the Domaine has a small vineyard in the grand cru Clos de la Roche in Morey-St-Denis. 90% of the vines are Pinot Noir, 5% Chardonnay and 5% Aligote.
Domaine Fernand Lécheneaut has been run since 1985 by brothers Vincent and Philippe Lécheneaut, who are admirable vignerons. The traditional estate in Nuits St Georges is considered one of the finest in Burgundy. Once harvested the wine spends 18 months in barrique without any fining or filtration. The wines produced here are superbly crafted, concentrated yet forward and elegant with well integrated oak. Wine availability is strictly limited.
Ratings & Reviews
87-90 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:"A
spicy and distinctly earthy nose offers up a pretty mix of both red and
blue fruit along with plum and floral notes that introduce velvety
middle weight flavors that are also supported by mildly rustic tannins
but the depth and length are excellent for a wine at this level. Worth
considering." (Jan 30, 2010)
