Notes from the Winemaker:

This Pinot Noir shows great depth with wonderfully ripe black fruit aromas, a core of pure black cherry, and delightful hints of mushroom, spice and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is viscous and silky, weighty yet exquisitely balanced, with a wealth of luscious wild berry and plumy flavors throughout a bright, persistent finish.

-Kenneth Juhasz, winemaker

Our Russian River Valley terroir, Dijon clones and the 2007 vintage have combined to produce our most sophisticated version of this wine to date. Whereas 2006 brought substantial yields, tight clusters and big berries, 2007 saw heat during bloom producing shatter and shot berries giving us a light crop – half the amount of the previous vintage. Small berries and open clusters provided great fruit intensity. We knew 2007 would be a great year, and it came together with an ease and flow now apparent in the wines.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"An intriguing, multidimensional wine, with layer after layer of truffle, mineral, clove and chicory notes that frame the plush, ripe black cherry and plum flavors. The intensity kicks in on the long, long finish. Drink now through 2020. 425 cases made." –MW (Aug 31, 2011)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"A big, rich, flashy Pinot Noir, softly sweet and fruity in raspberries, cherries, sandalwood and spices. A hint of tannins and crisp acidity provide the balance for good structure. Best over the next few years for youthful freshness."  — S.H.  (9/1/2011)

90 Points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine:
"There is a slight streak of earth and burnt toast that gets in the way of this wine's expression of very ripe black cherry fruit, and, while some might call it complexing, others might well find it a bit of a bane. We confess to giving it the benefit of the doubt because we are quite convinced by the wine's solidity, depth and richness, and, while it is not one for milder fare, it will shine with a well-seasoned rack of lamb."
