Notes from the Winemaker:

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. Aged in French Oak barrels for 20 months, 50% new French Oak. The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is grown on our Estate controlled vineyards, in the Oakville AVA, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The Oakville District is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and produces wines that are full, lush and very elegant.

What Does It Taste Like?

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is big and lush with huge gobs of fruit in the aroma and flavor. The texture of the wine is soft and supple, typical of Cabernet Sauvignons grown in our area of the Oakville AVA. Patience during bottle aging will reward the “steward” with an outstanding bottle over the next 10 to 15 years.

Christine Tran's Tasting Notes:

I tasted the 2007 Groth Cabernet last week and was extremely pleased with how well integrated this wine was at such an early stage. This wine has all the hallmarks of a great wine from a phenomenal vintage. For all you Napa Cab lovers, the 2007 Groth will lure you in with its intoxicating aromas of black cherry, fresh shavings of dark chocolate, espresso grinds and light hints of cedar, dust and graphite. As alluring as the aroma is, the taste is even better. The taste confirms the bouquet and has the additional mineral complexity that is usually only found in Bordeaux or in higher elevation Napa Cabernets such as Howell Mountain or Mount Veeder. This is a well made wine that is balanced from the initial aromas to the final taste in the lengthy finish. This Cab tastes better on the second day, which confirms that it will get better with time. The great news is that it can be consumed now (with a couple hours of decanting) or it can be cellared for your enjoyment in the later years.

92 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine:
"From the Groth family's estate vineyards, this has the lush fruit of a classic Oakville cabernet. The structure is lean and firm, with purple and blueberry fruit running straight through it. Sleek mineral tannins keep it tight, revealing a profile that will expand over time in bottle."
