About This Wine:A blend of fruit from several top J. Christopher vineyard sites (Charlie’s, Abbey Ridge, Le Pavillon and La Colina vineyards), this is classic Dundee Hills Pinot Noir from the AVA’s red jory clay soil.
This cuvée is a blend of selected barrels from several excellent vineyard sites in the red Jory clay of the Dundee Hills AVA. It shows the earthy depth and high-toned floral character that are typical of this area. A part of the J. Christopher Terroir Series, it makes a very interesting comparison to the “Nuages” cuvée from the thinner, rockier soil of the Chehalem Mountains AVA, and the “Lumière” cuvée from the warmer Eola-Amity Hills AVA.
The 2010 vintage includes barrels from Bella Vida, Baptista Maresh, and Abbey Ridge vineyards. It is pure and focused, with a lush, silky attack followed by seamless length. The lovely, delicately floral aroma was greatly enhanced by the single barrel from the exceptionally distinctive Abbey Ridge.
Ratings & Reviews
89-90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Comprising fruit from a cru-classe trio of red clay Jory sites – Bella Vide, Maresh, and a single barrel of precious Abby Ridge whose inclusion Somers deemed almost miraculously efficacious (else he would not have sacrificed it) – J. Christopher’s 350 cases worth of 2010 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills Cuvee displays the smoke-tinged ripe cassis and elderberry familiar from the corresponding generic bottling, here with a faintly caramelized sense of richness; mingling of licorice and bittersweet, medicinal herbal concentrates; and an evident abundance of fine tannins that should help see it through the next half dozen or more years." - David Schildknecht (Aug 2012)
