Notes from the Winemaker:

From tuffaceous soil, Eocenic in origin, and 1.8 kilos of fruit per vine. Élevage is 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels (11-40 hl.) followed by 6-8 months’ bottle age. The strictest quality standards and severest selection of the grapes, together with ideal soil components and state-of-the-art vinification, express the appellation’s nobility and grandeur to the highest, purest degree. The Lisini’s use of the three different sizes of “botti” (traditional oak barrels), adds to the structure, elegance, and the typical tobacco and spice aromas. This is aimed at extracting these characteristics to their fullest, while never sacrificing balance and finesse. The Lisinis insist “technique should never be forced, and should be used with the fullest respect for the natural life process of the vines”.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
This red bursts with cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors, married to a firm structure. Elegant, with vibrant acidity driving the flavors to a lingering aftertaste of fruit and mineral. Best from 2016 through 2026. 2,500 cases made.- BS (July 31, 2014)
91 Points - James Suckling:
A rich, layered wine for the vintage, with dried berry and hints of cocoa and earth. Full-bodied, balanced and succulent. Delicious already.- James Suckling (October 2014)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2008 vintage):
"Lisini’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the few wines of the vintage that is going to require patience. A big, broad-shouldered wine, the 2008 fills out nicely over time with attractive black fruit, smoke, tar, game and savory herb notes. Although quite virile and imposing today, the 2008 also shows striking inner perfume and a level of sweetness that is likely to require some time to emerge, suggesting the wine has plenty of potential for improvement ahead. The 2008 spent 42 months in French oak, exceedingly long by today’s standards. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028." -Antonio Galloni (Jun 2013)
