Notes from the winemaker:
The estate, only two kilometers from Martinenga, is on the hill of Monte Aribaldo in the commune of Treiso d'Alba. On the summit one can see the Villa Giulia Grésy, the 19th century hunting lodge of the family's. From the villa's gardens one has a splendid view of Piedmont framed by the noble peaks of the Alps. The vineyard extends along the hill with a mixed terrain of calcareous and volcanic soil with an average elevation of 360 meters (1200 feet).
A classic red wine for the whole meal with a red-violet colour, intense vinous perfume, and a slight grassy note. The wine is elegant and smooth, fresh and balanced, with the slightly bitter after taste typical of a Dolcetto from Treiso d'Alba.
Tasting Notes ('05 Vintage):Colour: Brilliant ruby red with violet reflections.
Bouquet: Intense and persistent, reminiscent of small fruits (cherries...) and almonds.
Taste: Velvety and harmonious; good structure, with a pleasant bitterish almond aftertaste and just the right tannins to make it an attactive wine.
Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2009 Dolcetto d’Alba Monte Aribaldo makes a great introduction to the wines of this venerable estate. Floral red berries inform this delicate, mid-weight Monte Aribaldo. There is a Burgundian sense of elegance and restraint to the 2009 I find particularly appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.
Marchesi di Gresy is best known for their Barbarescos, which are typically some of the best in the region. As good as those wines can be, the estate also releases a number of fine entry-level bottlings." - Antonio Galloni (Aug 2010)
