Notes from the Winemaker:
Bright minerality and fresh-cut hay qualities are apparent on the nose, followed by zesty citrus and stone-fruit notes. Seamless fruit flavors of grapefruit, lemon and gooseberry shine through on the mid-palate, complemented by a crisp acidity that carries through from start to finish. The higher acidity in this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to a wide array of food, particularly fresh summer salads, grilled seafood, tomato-based dishes and guacamole.

“What I love most about this wine is that it has a true sense of place, by fermenting and aging without oak, you allow the flavor influences from the vineyard to really shine through”

About This Wine:
We believe that the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation in Monterey County is the best appellation in the world for producing Chardonnay. This region benefits from cool morning fog and afternoon breezes that result in a long growing season, producing intense tropical fruit flavors balanced with vibrant acidity. In 2011, the cool weather pattern throughout spring and summer brought about an extended growing season which resulted in slow ripening, lighter yields and smaller berries – perfect conditions to produce Chardonnay grapes with concentrated fruit characters and nice, bright acidity.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2010 vintage):
Mer Soleil’s Chardonnay grapes dependably get so ripe, they offer explosive flavors even without oak. You won’t miss a thing without that barrel. The pineapple, orange and golden mango flavors are delicious on their own, and even offer a hint of vanilla. A mouthwateringly fresh squeeze of acidity makes everything bright and clean. — S.H. (3/1/2012)

Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2010 vintage):

"Light gold. High-pitched aromas of green apple, lemon zest and white flowers. Dry and racy on entry, then plumper in the middle, offering juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors that show a refreshingly bitter quality. Finishes taut and nervy, with good clarity and spicy persistence. No excess fat here." - Josh Raynolds (Nov/Oct '11)

Wine Spectator Magazine - 91 Points (2007 vintage):
"Combines ripe, intense peach, nectarine and tangerine fruit, with touches of floral and spice. Gains body and depth, turning creamy in texture. Drink now through 2012. 18,400 cases made." –JL (7/31/2009)
