About This Wine:Like the color of tis wine that resembles a dark red ruby, Nita is a rare gem from the Spanish appellation of Priorat. Priorat is a region typically known for its concentrated barrel-aged reds, however this wine is one of only a few non-barrel aged wines made within this famous appellation. Unaffected by the toasted notes and wood tannins that barrel aging can produce, this wine is perfect for those who desire to taste the fruit and terrior of a wine in its purest form. Brain child of young female winemaker Meritxell Pallejà, this wine retains all of the characteristic minerality of Priorat, while better preserving the dense fruit flavors of the old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena. With aromas of violet, ripe berries, licorice and slate, on the palate the wine is well balanced with silky, mature tannins and surprising complexity. Designed to be consumed upon release, this wine can also age for up to 5 years in bottle.
45% Garnacha, 35% Cariñena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah
Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate"The 2008 Nita is a rare, unoaked, value-priced Priorat designed for near-term drinking. Meritxell Palleja makes her wine from purchased fruit with the current blend consisting of 45% Garnacha, 35% Carinena, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It is dark ruby-colored with a fragrant bouquet of cherry, violet, cassis, blueberry, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with notes of black licorice and Asian spices making an appearance. The wine’s finish is fruit-filled and lengthy. Drink this hedonistic value over the next 5 years." - Jay Miller (Apr 2010)
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 Vintage):The
2007 Nita is composed of 45% Garnacha, 35% Carinena, 15% Cabernet
Sauvignon, and 5% Syrah aged in tank. Cherry red in color, it exhibits a
fragrant bouquet of crushed stone, underbrush, spice box, black cherry,
and blueberry jam. Silky-textured, forward, succulent, and
well-balanced, this charming effort can be enjoyed now but should
provide pleasure for another five years. - Jay Miller (Feb 2009)
