Notes From The Winemaker:

For those of you who came in after the first act, I should probably answer the oft-posed question: Why Cuvée B? The first version of this wine was the 1999 vintage. When I was looking for a name, I had in mind the B-side singles of my youth. (God I wish I still had that 45 of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand!”) The B-side was never as popular as the hit single it backed, but musically it was sometimes superior. Anyway, the ’99 B consisted of barrels that didn’t fit into the Willamette Valley cuvée. Clive Coates preferred it to the more expensive Willamette. I don’t know what that says about his taste in music.

Cuvée B is always the first Pinot Noir to be released. This vintage is primarily a blend of fruit from Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, and Eola Hills AVAs. In addition, we’ve added a smattering of the softer barrels from all of the vineyards we work with, as well as all of the light-press wine.

What Does It Taste Like?

Andrew Rich Cuvee B Pinot noir 07 has welcoming aromas of raspberry and strawberry, which signal the rich flavors to come. Crushed raspberry and spicy red currant mix with sweet roses on a silky smooth frame. There's a juiciness that lifts through the finish, bringing a smile to your face when you realize the bottle is only $24! As always, the Andrew Rich Cuvee B is one of the standout values in Oregon Pinot noir.

Ratings / Reviews:

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"The color is light red, while the nose is very direct and primary, and also very red. Crushed raspberries and strawberries come to mind, along with a hint of spice and bramble. This is a medium-weight wine, with a fleshy, supple mid-palate, moderate length, and a softness that’s interrupted on the finish by the slightest suggestion of tannins. When I worked in Australia many years ago, I heard wines referred to as “friendly.” This is a friendly wine, but a suave dinner companion: a gifted conversationalist rather than the boorish life of the party. I suggest drinking it over the next three years. 1,100 cases produced." May, 2008
