With a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, this wine evolves dramatically from its first few moments in the glass. Initial top notes of Spanish lavender and brambles are followed by graphite, Asian plum, and cassis. Moments later, inviting fragrances of burnt vanilla caramel greet the taster. Flavors are reminiscent of mocha dusted bakers chocolate and dark cherries.

Tasting Notes:

The nose on this vintage evolves dramatically from its first few moments in the glass. Initial top notes of Spanish lavender and brambles are followed by graphite, Asian plum, and cassis. Moments later, inviting fragrances of burnt vanilla caramel greet the taster. As it presents, the palate is balanced in its weighty structure. Round, well framed tannins encompass a plush core of mixed berry compote. Flavors are reminiscent of mocha dusted bakers chocolate and dark cherries.

Notes from the Winemaker: 

Layered fruit aromatics jump out of the glass upon approach. Mission Figs, stewed strawberries, and dried cranberries are the core fruit aromas displayed by this wine. These are accentuated by Mexican cinnamon and mocha notes contributed by the French oak barrels. The first sip is inviting and enticing. The entry has a soft, chamois like smoothness to the mouth feel. Flavors of dried cherries, strawberry rhubarb and graham cracker are apparent. The wine’s finish is emblematic of Rutherford’s dusty coco powder like tannins.

Round Pond Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (Rutherford, Napa Valley, California)

Notes from the Winemaker: 
This is a classic Sauvignon Blanc aroma profile with focused notes of kiwi fruit, grapefruit, wet stone, honeycomb, and ripe apricots. As the wine evolves, subtler floral fragrances are apparent including Queen Anne’s lace and Lily of the Valley. Delicate and refined, this very pretty wine dances upon the pallet with a zesty citrus splash followed by honeydew melon flavors. While the wine has plenty of acid verve and backbone, it possesses a balanced mouth feel that is as soft as a down pillow.


Winemaker Notes: The Estate Sauvignon Blanc at Round Pond is made in a fresh, clean style with a good acidic backbone and a lively finish. The wine is a pure expression of the fruit without any influence from oak cooperage. The fruit is harvested at the exact right moment so that the wine has a nice balance between citrus and stone fruit aromas. The wine is made to drink early and will show its best on a summer day. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, 100% Round Pond Estate, 100% Rutherford, 100% Stainless steal, 0% Malolactic Fermentation, 0% Lees stirring. "My goal with this wine is to transfer the fruit from the vineyard directly into the wine glass. I shoot for the “not-quite-tropical” fruit category.
