A success story with ancient roots and a recent history, Vigorello was the precursor of an entire generation of wines that became famous as the Supertuscans.

It represented, in faraway 1968, the first effort to produce a wine that was from 100% red grapes, sangiovese, contrary to the prevailing custom of that day in the Chianti zone.

Although Vigorello currently contains some cabernet and merlot as well, it nonetheless preserves its exquisitely Tuscan character. A truly historical wine, then, one with energy and vigour, just as its name affirms.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"There's loads of new wood in this red, but also lots of fruit. Needs to come together in the bottle. Full-bodied and chewy. A full-throttle red. New World-like. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best after 2013. 1,250 cases made." –JS (Oct 15, 2010)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2006 Vigorello, 45% Sangiovese, 40 % Cabernet Sauvigon and 15% Merlot, is another beautiful wine from San Felice. This shows gorgeous depth in its dark fruit, smoke and leather. The intensity of the fruit tapers off just a bit on the finish, exposing the tannins. Minerals, earthiness and herbs come to life in the round, seductive finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.

What a joy it is to taste these new releases from San Felice. Quite simply, these are the finest wines I have tasted from the estate in many a year. San Felice is one of the most beautiful properties in all of Tuscany. It’s nice to see quality on the rise." - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2010)

92
Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"(contains sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot; 14% alcohol) Inky, glass-staining ruby. Black plum, dark chocolate syrup, and incense on the nose, with a hint of coffee reduction. Then fresher on the palate, with fresh black plum and blueberry flavors complicated by hints of underbrush and minerals. Finishes long and smooth, with a pronounced fresh plum element. First produced in 1968, Vigorello is the original Super-Tuscan, the wine that started the wave of new wines from Tuscany that blended international varieties with the local sangiovese. This 2006 is a very successful version, one of the best in recent memory." - Ian D'Agata (Jul/Aug '10)
