Although young, the 2010 shows generous, medium bodied ripe fruit bursting with remarkably silky, dark plum, cherry, and blackcurrant flavors. The nose brings lovely terroir notes of bay laurel, rich brown sugar, gingerbread, and a multitude of spices. The youthful tannins are suprisingly smooth and the acidity is just right.

This is a plump, young Napa Valley Cabernet that through acute attention in the vineyard, careful craftsmanship in the winery and meticulous assembly in the finishing has avoided the pitfalls of the difficult Napa vintage year of 2011 . There is no hint of that cool, damp summer in the big, warm aroma of dark berries with smoky overtones. Its dark purple color forecasts the density of structure with plush, round tannins extracted from nicely ripened fruit. Dark berries and plums, a bit of smoke and spice from the best French oak and an overall brooding richness of deep, dark flavors extend from entry to the long finish.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"This stands out from the pack for the sheer complexity of its flavors, as well as the structural integrity. It’s absolutely dry, and the tannins are strong, in the Spring Mountain way. The fruit is terrifically concentrated, with potent flavors of blackberry, currant, dark chocolate and anise; there’s a lovely olive note that grounds the wine and makes it earthy. Production was a mere 318 cases. Drink now–2021." - S.H. (9/1/2012)

An intense aroma of briary black cherry, cassis and lavender is complemented with subtle hints of anise, tobacco and a slight note of juniper. Sweet, toasty vanilla and spice add depth and complexity. On the palate, lush, silky tannins envelop the core of forward black fruit, with perfectly integrated oak rounding out the long finish. Enjoy!

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Leaner and brighter than Donum’s brooding Russian River Pinots, the Carneros is higher in acidity and high-toned fruit, tight in red cherry and black tea, confounding and complex. A pronounced spicy element on the midpalate continues through the finish, and is entirely seductive." -Virginie Boone (10/1/2014)

90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Lots of blackberry aromas, with hints of cedar, follow through to a full-bodied palate. A chunky wine, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Needs time. Very well done for the vintage. Best after 2010. 14,220 cases made." – JS (Mar 31, 2007)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"At first, there’s a slight green herb funkiness of sharp dill on the nose of this single-vineyard offering from the Jackson Family-owned Cambria brand, where Santa Maria native Denise Shurtleff has made the wine since 1999. Once sipped, that evolves into a nice smokiness that sits atop tart green apple and Asian pear." — Matt Kettmann (9/1/2014)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A small step up over the Katherine’s Vineyard, the 2012 Chardonnay Bench Break shows slightly more toasty oak in its apple and orchard fruits, white flowers and hints of nuttiness. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it’s a big, full-flavored effort that stays beautifully balanced and pure. Spending roughly 10 months in 57% new French oak, enjoy bottles over the coming 3-4 years." — Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2014)

"A fresh, juicy cherry note is enlivened by spice and savory mineral elements in this lean yet firm red. Remains harmonious and persistent, featuring a long, spice-tinged aftertaste. Shows excellent potential. Best from 2016 through 2032. 1,650 cases made. " – BS (May 31, 2013)
