Ratings & Reviews
Rank #36 on Top 100 Wines of 2011, 93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Very silky and floral, this red reminds me of Burgundy with its bilberry, violet and raspberry aromas and flavors. The grainy tannins show the other side to this wine, which needs time for the two components to balance. Ends with a long, intense, fruit-filled finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2014 through 2027. 12,500 cases made." –BS (Oct 31, 2011)
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2007 Campaccio is beautifully ripe and succulent in its dark, extroverted fruit. In 2007, Campaccio veers on the edge of overripeness but there is just enough acidity to keep things in check. French oak, smokiness, new leather and licorice add depth to the rich, creamy finish. I am not sure how the 2007 will age, but it should provide highly pleasurable drinking for at least another decade. Campaccio is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
Terrabianca tends to bottle later than most estates in Tuscany. Consequently, most years I review the wines from barrel rather than bottle, an approach I now realize does not show these wines in the best possible light. Readers will find much to admire in these delicious, endowed reds." -
Antonio Galloni (Oct 2010)
89-91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2006 vintage):
"The 2006 Campaccio (70% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a pretty, nuanced offering redolent of crushed flowers, raspberries and spices. This medium-bodied wine presents gorgeous balance and finesse in an elegant, fruit-driven style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016." - Antonio Galloni (Aug 2009)
90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2006 vintage):
"Focused aromas of ripe blackberry and currant follow through to a full body, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, polished and silky finish. A red that pleases from start to finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2011. 15,000 cases made." –JS (Oct 31, 2009)
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2006 vintage):
"This 70-30 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon offers an extra layer of sophistication that sits like a veil of smoke and spice over a hearty core of quality fruit. Mature blueberries, cherries and blackberries come to the forefront, followed by clove, cola and mesquite. The mouthfeel is smooth and long and is accented by bright notes of exotic spice." — M.L. (3/1/2010)
90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2006 vintage):
"Dark ruby. Delicately smoky plum and earth aromas on the nose, with hints of licorice and woodsy underbrush. Dense, rich and suave on entry, offering ripe flavors of dark fruit and fresh herbs. Finishes with a persistent violet quality and a hint of vanilla." - Ian D'Agata (Jul/Aug 09)
89-92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2005 vintage):
"The 2005 Campaccio (70% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon) needs time to develop its full potential, but even at this early stage it is a generous, full-bodied wine imbued with dark fruit, tobacco, earthiness, licorice and toasted oak. The tannins build on the finish, but the wine appears to have the requisite fruit to provide balance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
This year most of Terrabianca’s wines hadn’t been bottled at the time of my tastings, so those wines were sampled from barrel. Overall, the wines are much improved, with none of the hard edges or greenness that characterized some of them in recent past vintages. Still, I had hoped for more distinctiveness, particularly at the high end of the range.
