Tasting Notes:

A brilliant shade of garnet, lined with deep blackberry and blackcurrant aromas. Fresh and intense on the palate, with fruity Cabernet Sauvignon typicity backed by mocha, black pepper and bittersweet chocolate notes. The lengthy finish delivers a subtle, clean minerality supported on ripe, pliable tannins.

About this Wine:

The wines of Viña Cobos are the result of a shared dream inspired by the passion of California winemaker Paul Hobbs and two winemaking partners, Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud, who come from a wine producing culture deeply rooted in European tradition. Paul Hobbs first became acquainted with Argentina in 1989, and was immediately intrigued with the Argentinean terroir and culture, sensing a unique potential for malbec and other varietals in the region. The inaugural vintage of Viña Cobos Malbec received the highest score to date for any Argentine wine upon its release in 2002. Since then, Paul and his Argentine partners have grown their portfolio of ultra-premium wines, which continue to receive even greater accolades.

The Felinos exhibit a great balance of pure, concentrated fruit, lively acidity and smooth tannins. Our Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Chardonnay are vibrant, mouth-filling wines that pair exceptionally well with food.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2010 Felino Cabernet Sauvignon reveals an alluring nose of cedar, violets, tobacco, and assorted black fruits. Nicely concentrated and impeccably balanced, this savory effort will provide optimum drinking over the next 6+ years. It, too, is an outstanding value.

Vina Cobos is a partnership between Paul Hobbs, Andrea Marchiori, and Luis Barraud. The new releases are further confirmation that Vina Cobos is one of Argentina’s great producers. The Felino label has for a number of years been synonymous with value." - Jay Miller (Dec 2011)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2008 vintage):

"Deep purple color; splendid nose of exotic spices and black fruits, layered, dense, over-delivers." - Jay Miller (Dec 2010)

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2007 vintage):
"The purple-colored 2007 Felino Cabernet Sauvignon offers up spicy black currants and blackberry. Smooth-textured and layered, it has excellent balance and a lengthy, pure finish. It’s hard to think of a better value in Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vina Cobos is Paul Hobbs’ winery in Mendoza. He is better known (at least for the moment) to USA connoisseur/collectors for his namesake winery in Napa Valley which has received many accolades (including 100-point scores from Robert Parker) for its Cabernets, Pinot Noirs, and Chardonnays. What is less well known is that Hobbs is a pioneer in fine wine production in Argentina, having started there in 1988 with Nicolas Catena. Senor Catena gives Hobbs much credit for the success of Catena-Zapata’s Chardonnay program. He has since extended his consulting efforts both in Argentina and Chile but the capstone of Hobbs’ work is Vina Cobos which began in 1998 and moved into its own winery facility in 2007. The first vintage of the top-of-the-line Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard was 1998 but it was ruined by rain and never sold in the USA. 2000 and 2001 were not up to par, 2000 being the El Nino year and 2001 being too dilute, resulting in their declassification." - Jay Miller (Dec 2008)
