Long, intense finish, with earth and rose pedal notes. Grilled sea bass with herbed butter. Can serve now, but will hold for some time.” - Santé Magazine

92+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Bright red.  More reticent nose hints at cherry and menthol.  Deep and juicy but youthfully imploded; showing more soil complexity than the La Serra but closed, even medicinal, today.  Finishes longer and more tannic.  As tightly wound as it is at present, it's not at all hard.  Lay this classically styled Barolo down." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Oct '11)

CASE PRICE = $109.99 per bottle (add 12+ quantity to your basket)
Rank #5 Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2011, 97 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A tremendous wine that shows how Merryvale is absolutely at the top of its game. Impeccable in structure, with refined tannins that are soft and firm at the same time, and a fine cut of acidity. Entirely dry, the Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend is awesome in blackberry, cherry, cassis and oak flavors, with complexities of anise, soy sauce, grilled meats and minerals. Beyond the particulars, it just feels dramatic and rich in the mouth. A great wine that should develop in the bottle over the next decade." S.H.  (11/1/2011)

Rank #15 Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 & 95 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A very elegant and refined Evenstad Reserve, with grace notes of sandalwood and a lovely cherry core. The fruit is immaculate, the concentration focused and lengthy, and the flavors are so artfully blended that the wine is seamless and perfectly balanced. Although it is drinking like a mature wine, there is every reason to cellar wines such as this—it can develop like a fine Burgundy, over decades."  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Rank #39 Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 & 95 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"One sip is all it takes to fall in love with this Cabernet, which contains a little Merlot. It’s rich and lush and authoritative on every level. The texture is soft as velvet, but the tannins are firm, backing up blackberry, cherry, chocolate, cassis, mineral and new oak flavors that are complex and linger long into the spicy finish. Such are the tannins that the wine is likely to age well through 2016, at least." S.H.  (11/1/2011)

Rank #65 Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 & 95 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Another excellent Cabernet from Hestan. It's riper and juicier than the '06, showing the babyfat of this famous vintage. But it's no less complex or ageworthy, just drinkable earlier. Shows concentrated blackberry, black currant, anise, licorice and smoky oak flavors, wrapped into dramatic, thick, firm tannins. Should develop over the next decade and beyond."  — S.H.  (Sept 2011)

"Toasty aromas are followed by intense black plum fruits twisted with tannins and polished with wood. It’s an impressive, powerful wine, with a complex structure. Firm at this stage, it need 4¬–5 years at least to age."  — R.V.  (3/1/2011)

Rank #10 Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 & 96 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A big, vital and important Cabernet that deserves a place in the cellar. It hits the mouth with huge tannins that are tight and locked down, yet sweetly ripe. That contradiction persists throughout the fantastically complex blackberry, cherry, currant and mocha flavors. A very fine, superior wine that exemplifies the Stags Leap iron fist in a velvet glove. As delicious as it is, you should hold this Cabernet for a good six years, and it could easily develop for an additional decade."  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The estate’s 2007 Barolo Brunate sweeps across the palate with endless layers of expansive fruit. The Brunate shows fabulous intensity and depth in an uncharacteristically rich, opulent style for Marcarini. Despite the wine’s richness there is plenty of Brunate character, particularly on the finish, where menthol, pine, resin, spices and a host of other balsamic notes speak with great eloquence. Marcarini harvested Brunate on September 24 and 25. The wine saw 15 days of fermentation, followed by another 42 days of contact with the skins. The wine then spent two years in large, neutral casks prior to being racked into steel to rest before being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027." - Antonio Galloni (Feb 2011)
