Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Champagne 1996 LIBRARY WINE
Auction Price: $250.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $189.99
You Save $60.01

Deep, highly complex aromas of citrus skin, nutmeg, porcini mushroom, toasted almond and clove. Rich, dry and impressively deep; superconcentrated and oily. A chewy, spicy Champagne that seemed to grow fresher as it opened in the glass. Really explosive on the aftertaste, finishing with a clinging quality and powerful spicy, nutty flavors. A major mouthful of Champagne, at its best at the dinner table. Displays the combination of high ripeness and high acidity of this vintage at its best. This thick, rich, very powerful wine is still a bit youthfully disorganized and will be even better for a few years of additional aging. One of the standouts of my recent tastings. -Stephen Tanzer

Salon Champagne Millesime Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil 1996 LIBRARY WINE
Auction Price: $400.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $339.99
You Save $60.01

Green-tinged gold. Incredibly complex, intense bouquet of smoky, leesy orange, pear, licorice, minerals and bitter quinine. The superconcentrated citrus, quince and pear liqueur flavors convey an almost painful impression of extract and positively explode across the palate. Elegant, poised and precise in a manner rare for a wine with such flavor intensity. The vibrant, minerally, extremely long finish simply doesn't let up. This should age effortlessly for a decade or two. -Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 Points:
"Pale to medium lemon-straw colour. The nose reveals a good intensity of honey buttered toast and praline aromas complimenting the dried apricot and apple slice fruitiness. There are plenty of frisky, very fine and persistent bubbles on the palate injecting life into the rich, nutty style. Medium to high acidity and a long creamy finish. Drink now – 2015. Tasted October 2008." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (01/2009)

Wine Spectator Magazine - 91 Points:
"There's depth and power here, along with a firm structure underlying the honey, vanilla and bread dough aromas and flavors. Seems to be on the dry side, but that may just be very high acidity. Fine length. Drink now through 2003." -(2/2000)

"With its good bottle age, this bone-dry Champagne from Roederer has gained impressive complexity. The wine is certainly dry, but toast, vanilla and ground almond flavors add to the fruit. The apple skin texture holds this delicious wine together." (12/1/2008)

"A complex, dynamic Champagne, with flavors that range from flowers and orange citrus to vanilla, roasted hazelnut, leather and woodsy spices. This is intense, but also shows a lot of finesse, with a fine, spicy aftertaste. Drink now through 2030." (12/09)

"This has the bright savor of a strawberry dipped in sea salt. It’s light, with a hint of smokiness to balance the fruit. Together with the fine bubbles, that fruit savor will clean up after cured sausages and other charcuterie."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 93 Points:
"Medium lemon-straw colour. Moderately intense nose of lemon curd, kaffir lime leaf, plenty of hot buttered toast and vague hints of chalk and crushed stone. The bubbles are calming a little in the mouth and the very crisp acidity is taking centre stage, yet this wine is drinking beautifully now, providing plenty of yeast and citrus flavour with a generous sprinkling of minerality. Long finish. Drink now – 2012. Tasted October 2008."

"A powerful, well-toned Champagne, featuring coconut, toast, grapefruit and coffee aromas and flavors. There are plenty of bass notes, punctuated by crisp acidity, and it all comes together on the fine texture with an aftertaste of roasted hazelnut and coffee. Drink now through 2014."
