We produced this Vosne-Romanée from Pinot Noir vines with an average age
of 50 years, harvested from sites around the historic village of
Vosne-Romanée. The growing season and harvest in 2006 were fine for
Pinot Noir with lovely ripeness of fruit, purity and structure. Bottled
after 16 months in barrel, this is a wine of real complexity, structure
and length which we really hope that you will enjoy.

with harmonious flavours. Bright ruby colour. On the nose, intense
aromas of wild cherry, liquorice and mild spices, evolving towards notes
of undergrowth and mushroom. On the palate, excellent balance between
tannin, acidity and "gras" (velvety texture). The aftertaste is
reminiscent of little red berries".

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Plum,
cherry, cinnamon, and white pepper scent the Chauvenet-Chopin 2008
Vougeot, then carry into a brightly juicy and invigoratingly spicy and
pungent palate performance, with which the spiciness and caramelization
of new wood (here, as in the corresponding Chambolle, representing 40%)
manage to play well. There is a smoother texture and more enveloping
sense of fruit here which my somehow explain why the cohabitation of
brightness and torrifactive notes doesn’t come off as awkward
bifurcation in the way I experienced with that Chambolle. This
persistently lively and satisfying Pinot ought to show well for at least
6-8 years." - David Schildknecht (June 2010)

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The
2008 Gevrey-Chambertin – 1er Cru is powerful, intense and round. The
wine seems to explode in all directions with endless layers of fruit
backed up by a solid core of structure. The 1er Cru shows terrific
delineation and fabulous overall balance. Anticipated maturity:
2013-2020." - Antonio
Galloni (May 2011)

87-90 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep
red with ruby highlights. Expressive nose melds dark fruits, smoked
meat and leather. A step up in intensity over the foregoing village
wines, with good density to its black cherry fruit. A solidly built wine
with good cut and clarity. Finishes with some chocolatey oak notes and
serious tannins supported by fruit. " - Stephen Tanzer (Mar/Apr '10)

87-90 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A
spicy and distinctly earthy nose offers up a pretty mix of both red and
blue fruit along with plum and floral notes that introduce velvety
middle weight flavors that are also supported by mildly rustic tannins
but the depth and length are excellent for a wine at this level. Worth
considering." (Jan 30, 2010)

Allen Meadows' Burghound: "By
contrast, here the nose is not reduced and reveals a spicy, elegant,
pure and quite cool nose of mostly red and blue pinot fruit cut by
traces of stone and earth, both of which can be found on the supple,
delicious and racy flavors that possess a tangy and slightly edgy
finish. The vineyard's altitude shows as the acidity is more obviously
prominent." (Jan 30, 2010)

91-94 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound: "This
is also quite ripe though the dense red and black cherry aromas are
fresh if not necessarily especially elegant and are in keeping with the
big-bodied and extremely rich flavors that possess excellent power,
focus and length on the velvety yet chewy finish. This is a big wine but
not necessarily a rustic one." (Jan 30, 2010)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2008 Bourgogne-Hautes Cotes de Nuits is a tight, focused wine
laced with dark red fruit. The 2008 is a touch on the lean side, but
the wine’s freshness and length will shine at the dinner table.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020.
This is a strong set of wines from Gilles Jayer. In 2009 the harvest
took place from the 16th to the 24th of September. After vinification
Jayer leaves the wines in oak with no racking until they are assembled
prior to bottling. Jayer uses 100% new oak for all his wines. With the
occasional exception of some of the entry-level offerings, the wines
handle their new oak admirably well. I also had a chance to taste the
2008s. Aside from the Hautes Cotes de Beaune – which was too reduced to
evaluate – the 2008s showed very well.
