94 Points & #26 Top 100 of 2018 - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Rich and focused, this red delivers ripe fruit flavors of currant and blackberry that mingle with espresso, mineral and licorice notes. The firm tannins are well-integrated and crisp acidity keeps this focused. Concentrated and harmonious. Drink now through 2030. 2,500 cases made." – TM (Sep 30, 2018)

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Very ripe, bright, black fruits and tar aromas pour from the glass. Big and juicy, but the tannins are stronger than the sweet stuff. Long, clean finish and a lot of potential." - (July 24, 2017)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The careful selection of the grapes and the work directives even for the purchased grapes has clearly paid off in the 2013 Alión, which has great freshness and perfume. It was cropped from a relatively normal growing season, but with a cold September with some rains that provoked a slight delay in the picking and especially the seed for a severe sorting of the grapes. It's considered a challenging vintage in general, and the bottles produced are slightly less than in the healthier 2012. It's always pure Tempranillo from over 30-year-old vines in different villages: Pesquera, Padilla, Moradillo... It fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts after a three-day cold soak, followed by malolactic and 12-14 months in new French barriques. It might be a lighter vintage for Alión, but one that has a subtler profile and harmony. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, with a thread of acidity going through its core and lifting it up. An elegant Alión. 260,000 bottles and some larger formats were filled in May 2015." - Luis Gutiérrez (28th Feb 2017)

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2014 Aalto is produced with Tempranillo from different zones of Ribera del Duero aged in oak barrels, some 70% of them new, for 16 months, a little bit less than in previous years when the wine was aged for some 18 months. They now use some grapes from new vineyards they started planting in the year 2000. The nose has plenty of black fruit, with something earthy, including hints of graphite and lead pencil. It has a classical, somehow Bordelaise, profile with sweet spices and cedar wood; it's ripe without excess. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with good balance, in an XL style, as the wine hits the scales at 15% alcohol. The tannins are very polished, with some grainy texture and good freshness. This is ready now and should also be able to age nicely in bottle, set to be a commercial success, with the typical Aalto profile. 260,000 bottles produced." - Luis Gutierrez (Feb 2017)

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2013 Aalto PS was bottled at the same time as the regular 2013 Aalto, which means less time in oak (for this limited cuvée all the barrels were new) and the vintage was a little lighter and had higher acidity. They also had to do a more careful sorting, which resulted in less wine. The nose is subtler and more balanced and integrated. The bottled wine has less alcohol than previous years. The fresher vintages definitively take the oak in a different way and the wood feels better integrated; there are violets, bright cherries and fresher fruit than in other vintages, showing more of the character of the place and the grape. It's very open, hedonistic, aromatic and showy. It's very young and accessible, but I'd wait a little to get the edges nicely polished by the bottle. It should have a long life ahead and a nice development. A very nice vintage of PS, but don't get me wrong, it's still in its generous and well-oaked style. 16,000 bottles, a shorter vintage, were filled in July 2015." - Luis Gutiérrez (29th Oct 2015)

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Neal Martin had already tasted the 2005 Único in 2012, before I joined The Wine Advocate, but then they released 2007 and 2008 before and the 2005 has been kept until now, as they thought the vintage required some more time in bottle. It's mostly Tempranillo with some 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and aged for almost six years in 225-liter French and American oak barrels and 20,000-liter oak vats. The extra time in bottle has helped the wine to develop its bouquet, and it feels very aromatic and open, with the classical Vega Sicilia perfume of yesteryear, earthy, leafy and spicy, even if they wine was kept because of its power. It's still powerful, but at the same time it's elegant and has a polished mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins. 93,545 bottles, 2,391 magnums, 146 double magnums and six imperials produced. It was bottled in June 2011. Next year they will release the 2006, and the following vintage to be released in 2019, will be 2009. Further than that they don't know, as the only newer vintage in bottle today is 2010 and they are about to bottle 2011 now." Luis Gutiérrez (28th Feb 2017)

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A glass-coating opaque purple color, it is already displaying a complex aromatic array of sandalwood, smoke, espresso, lavender, Asian spices, and assorted blue and black fruits. Smooth-textured, succulent, and structured, it will evolve for 2-3 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2028+. In the scheme of things, it offers great value in top-flight Ribera del Duero.

Bodegas y Vinedos Aalto is a partnership between legendary vigneron Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini, former President of the governing body of the Ribera del Duero DO. Aalto is sourced from 7 different villages on a variety of soils with vineyard age ranging from 40-100 years and was aged for 24 months in French and American oak." -Jay Miller (June 2011)
