Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Champagne 1996 LIBRARY WINE
Auction Price: $250.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $189.99
You Save $60.01

Deep, highly complex aromas of citrus skin, nutmeg, porcini mushroom, toasted almond and clove. Rich, dry and impressively deep; superconcentrated and oily. A chewy, spicy Champagne that seemed to grow fresher as it opened in the glass. Really explosive on the aftertaste, finishing with a clinging quality and powerful spicy, nutty flavors. A major mouthful of Champagne, at its best at the dinner table. Displays the combination of high ripeness and high acidity of this vintage at its best. This thick, rich, very powerful wine is still a bit youthfully disorganized and will be even better for a few years of additional aging. One of the standouts of my recent tastings. -Stephen Tanzer

Salon Champagne Millesime Brut Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil 1996 LIBRARY WINE
Auction Price: $400.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $339.99
You Save $60.01

Green-tinged gold. Incredibly complex, intense bouquet of smoky, leesy orange, pear, licorice, minerals and bitter quinine. The superconcentrated citrus, quince and pear liqueur flavors convey an almost painful impression of extract and positively explode across the palate. Elegant, poised and precise in a manner rare for a wine with such flavor intensity. The vibrant, minerally, extremely long finish simply doesn't let up. This should age effortlessly for a decade or two. -Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 98 Points:
"The soon-to-be-released 2007 Dominus is a 5,400-case blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. It is ironic that Christian Moueix, the practitioner of utterly profound Merlot-based wines from St.-Emilion and Pomerol, eschews Merlot from his Napa vineyard, recognizing that it is Cabernet Sauvignon, and to a lesser extent Cabernet Franc, that hits the high notes in Napa. A prodigious example of Dominus, the 2007 represents a hypothetical blend of a Pomerol, Pauillac, and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a sweet nose of incense, cedar wood, black currants, black cherries, licorice, and a subtle hint of roasted herbs, it is an expansive, savory, opulent wine with a full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and sensational concentration. A legend in the making, it should evolve for 25-30 years, possibly longer given the fact that his vintages from the early eighties are still going strong, and the wines today are better made given Moueix-s Napa experience and the estate winery he did not have 25 years ago.

94 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine:
"Col Solare, the joint venture between Chateau Ste. Michelle and Antinori, completed its new Red Mountain facility in time to produce this 2006. Composed largely of cabernet and merlot, the wine buzzes with lithe energy when first poured but shows little else. A day of air brings it into focus with scents of tobacco leaf, cedar and black cherry, the flavors bearing out all those aromatic elements. But it’s the wine’s texture—wiry, energetic and completely poised—that may have you returning over and over to the glass. This is seriously elegant, and still very young. Cellar, then serve with herb-crusted lamb chops. "

The wine shows a deep ruby red color and nuances of ruby red, little transparency. The nose reveals intense, clean and pleasing aromas of black cherry, blueberry, plum, carob and violet followed by pleasing aromas of walnut-husk. In the mouth has good correspondence to the nose, good balance, agreeable tannins, good body and intense flavors. The finish is persistent with flavors of black cherry and plum. It pairs well with a variety of dishes such as flavorful pastas, pizza, cheeses, grills and roasts. The ideal everyday wine!!!

The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is sweet, sensual and perfumed. Today the wine remains extremely reticent, but the tannins show extraordinary purity and silkiness, suggesting the only thing missing is time. The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is usually one of the more reticent of the estate’s Riservas, but in 2005 it is especially unyielding. Still firm and tightly wound, the wine possesses notable detail and clarity in its fruit in a focused, compact style. Based on previous experience, I may very well be underestimating this wine, but only time will tell for sure. After several hours the Ovello opened up nicely and my impression is it will develop into a splendid Barbaresco?with time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.
