Notes from the Brewery:

The reddish sparkle of amber and a fragrant sweetness characterize this slow aged premium lager, the fortuitous and uncommon result of our brewmasters' encounter with the choicest malts and the beniaka, a bright red Japaneses sweet potato grown in the Kawagoe region of Little Edo, part of the ancient province of Musashi.

Slightly higher in alcohol with a rich, deep flavor, this is a beer that is meant to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Its name, Beniaka, refers both to the unique potato with which this is made and to its vibrant, yellow tinged red color.

Coedo Kyara Indian Pale Lager 5.5% ABV (Japan) [11.2 oz]

Notes from the Brewery:

Kyara is the Japanese word for a deep golden brown color tinged with red, and gives its name to this beer of the same hue. Aromatic hops carry notes of white grapes and spicy citrus, while a fresh, clean bitterness unfolds on the palate. Six different malts are combined with a slightly higher than average alcohol content, bringing a more expansive flavor to this well rounded, medium bodied brew. Low temperature lager yeasts make this a stand up beer with a pleasant, crisp finish.

Notes from the Brewery:

Shikkoku is a Japanese word that evokes the jet black color of onyx, perfect for this enchantingly dark, slow aged brew marked by an elegant, mellow flavor profile. Enigmatic shadows contrast sharply with the brightness of its fine, tea colored head, while the fragrance of aromatic hops delights the nose. Two types of black malt join six other malt varieties for a black lager that is smooth, light, and balanced never cloying. Japan proudly offers this dark jewel to stand among the best dark beers in the world.

This is the original Paulaner, the founding beer of Paulaner. The Salvator Double Bock is a bottom-fermented beer and has been brewed in almost exactly the same way since the end of the 18th century. It combines the most delicate of hops and dark barley malt to give a strong, characteristically malty taste and an inviting, gleaming copper color.

This pours a deep, chocolate-brown color, mostly opaque. There’s a creamy, light-tan head on top of things, reasonably well formed and providing some nice lacing. If there’s a main, composite view we kept coming back to with Wekken Sour, it was the sensory execution of a milk chocolate-covered cherry: aromatics offer up some rich cocoa, set alongside the dark and juicy cherry qualities of the Zoetzuur. And this doesn’t seem overly heavy, and certainly not syrupy. Instead that toasty undercurrent of the Left for Dead offers some really nice lift: toasted marshmallow, cake ice cream cone, plus a rich cherry quality that feels like ripe fruit.
