Vintage Ale is a truly distinguished bottle-conditioned ale, crafted by Fuller’s Head Brewer, John Keeling. Each vintage is a blend of that year’s finest malt and hops, and of course our unique yeast, creating a unique limited edition brew.

Bottle conditioning means that a little yeast is left in the bottle after bottling, which will mature slowly over time like a fine wine or whisky - well beyond the 'best before' date that we are obliged to state (we think it should read "best after!").

Here at Fuller's, we recently opened (in the interests of research, of course) a few bottles of old Vintages: they tasted better than ever so stock up now and you'll be glad you did in years to come!

This ale is traditionally highly hopped and robust so it could survive the long voyage to the Indian sub-continent. The result is a full bodied Pale Ale with a zesty character. Featured at number 1 position in Independent newspaper ‘Top 50 Beers’ in November 2007.

Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Notes From The Brewery:

This brilliantly clear yellow cider shines in the glass as big bubbles shoot to the top and form a thick, soft white head. Musty ripe apples balloon in the aroma, with rustic barnyard scents giving the bouquet a deep earthiness. Like the aroma, sweet, ripe apple notes hit the tongue before the fruit’s sour side emerges, while soft smoky flavors work through the sourness and smooth out the edges. A dynamic transition unfolds as the drink flows back: Sweet at first, the cider turns funky before finishing super-dry.

The best of Britain is here!

In England, an “ordinary” bitter is a beer for everyday drinking - the kind of beer you can turn to again and again through a long evening of socializing at the pub. Bluebird Bitter is an extraordinary “ordinary.” Freshness, mild carbonation, a wonderfully soft texture, and a perfect balance of rich, grassy malt and assertive Challenger hops make it a superbly drinkable session beer.

The bottle-conditioned Bluebird is altogether different from other bottled beers - it somehow tastes and feels like beer from the cask.

Rich mahogany in colour, ESB tempts with aromas of orange marmalade, balanced by soft malt toffee. The hops impart grassy, peppery notes alongside hints of citrus fruit – while the Pale Ale and Crystal malts bring distinctive biscuity flavours. A smooth, delicate bitterness lingers on the palate to give a supreme finish. - ABV 5.9% | IBU 35

Newcastle Brown Ale is an authentic English ale with a unique taste. Full of flavour, yet easy to drink, it's been drunk and enjoyed since 1927. And it's becoming more popular in more countries each year. The blend of crystal malts creates a light, nutty, malty taste softly blanced by hop dryness.

"Old Speckled Hen" has a full, smooth flavour and is very easy to drink. Its rich amber colour and superb fruity aromas are complemented by a delicious blend of malty tastes. Toffee and malt combine with bitterness on the back of the tongue to give a balanced sweetness. This is followed by a refreshingly dry finish.
