This wine opens with yellow apple, ripe granny smith apple, ripe pear, meyer lemon skin with notes of white and yellow flowers. On the palate it continues with yellow apple, warm white peach/pear that mix with oak influenced notes of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. The wine finishes with a slight chalky/limstone minerality with great acidity and a smooth balanced finish.

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is compelling. Where to start? An
expressive bouquet redolent of sweet herbs, tobacco and incense leads to
a gorgeous tapestry of dark red fruit. The Estate is drop-dead
gorgeous, with the silkiest of tannins that frame an extraordinary
finish. This has to be one of the most compelling values in California
Cabernet. In 2008 the blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3%
Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Draper describes 2008 as the driest
of the three drought years spanning 2006-2008. The 2008 is the first
vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon, which used to be called Santa Cruz
Mountains. In 2008 a spring harvest frost damaged much of the Merlot
crop, so there was no natural outlet for the Merlot that had previously
been used in the Santa Cruz Mountains bottling, but in 2009 there will
be a new Merlot bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028."

93 Points & "Cellar Selection" - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2006 vintage):
"Just terrific, a classic Santa Cruz Mountain Cabernet from this
consistentproducer. It’s bone dry, fine in balancing acidity and very
tannic, with a sandpapery, lockdown mouthfeel. Yet it’s wonderfully rich
in blackberries, currants, cassis and chocolate. This outstanding young
Cabernet should easily develop beyond 2015. Cellar Selection."—S.H.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine: "Fogarty’s
basic Pinot Noir is very good, although it’s not a wine for aging. With
its soft dryness and rich tannins, it shows polished flavors of
cherries, cola, herbs, cinnamon spice and subtle oak." — S.H.

The Muns vineyard is located 2600 feet above sea level on Loma Prieta.
It sits mostly above the fog line and derives its cooling influences
from its elevation, proximity to the Monterey Bay and cooling afternoon
winds. The 2007 Muns Vineyard Pinot has concentrated black cherry and
berry fruit with subtle hints of oak aromatics. The wine is dense
without being too heavy or cloying, and shows a surprising elegance on
the palate for such a big wine. Although this wine is drinking well now,
it would prove more rewarding for the more patient of us, with further
aging. The Santa Cruz Mountains is probably my favorite appellation for
Pinot Noir as it more often than not enhances the minerality of the
wine, which in my book is classic Pinot Noir. -Tony Craig – Winemaker

We love Cabernet Franc and are excited to offer our first SCM
appellation blend of this misunderstood variety. Cabernet Franc is less
tannic that its progeny, Cabernet Sauvignon, but has a seemingly endless
array of aromatic complexity. Savory herbs, red fruit and new leather
notes are just a few of the myriad of flavors present. This wine is
silky and rich. It hangs its hat on complexity; it continues to evolve
in the glass with great poise and balance- a tightrope walker of the
wine world if you will! This wine is ready to go on release and should
continue to gain complexity and length over the next 3-6 years.

90 Points - WORLD WINE CHAMPIONSHIPS AWARD: Gold Medal - Beverage Testing Institute:
"Translucent ruby color. Aromas of clay, cranberry-cherry chutney, cocoa
and nutshells follow through on a supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity
medium-to-full body with craisin, dried currant, and sundried tomato
notes. Finishes with a tangy, baked citrus and raspberry skin fade. A
well poised sipper or pair with veal chops."

Varner Chardonnay "Home Block" Spring Ridge Vineyard 2007 (Santa Cruz Mountains, California) - [RP 91+]

91+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even
better is the crisp, elegant, fresh 2007 Chardonnay Home Block.
Representing pure liquid rocks intermixed with a cold steel-like
structure, it smells of beeswax and citrus oil, but the best days of
this backward Chardonnay are still ahead of it. After another year of
bottle age, this wine should be 'rocking and rolling.
This Santa Cruz Mountain operation is an outstanding, still
under-the-radar source of terrific Chardonnay. This area has never had
problems with phylloxera, so these are all from the directly rooted (no
vines grafted on root stock) Spring Ridge Vineyard." - Robert Parker

Cherries, mint, and strawberry define the palate followed by soft notes
of vanilla. A velvety softness underpins the mouthfeel and offers a wine
that is exquisitely approachable, yet able to age gracefully for
several years.

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The
2009 Chardonnay Amphitheater Block emerges from the glass with layers
of fruit. It shows gorgeous up-front richness, then finds its center of
minerality on the mid-palate. It is a large-scaled, beautifully balanced
wine loaded with personality. Smoke, minerals and citrus linger on the
multi-dimensional, saline finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."
