93~96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The estate’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve is endowed with serious power and depth. Layers of blue and black fruit, smoke, tobacco and licorice are woven together beautifully. Vivid yet rich and resonant, the 2010 stands out for its exceptional purity and overall harmony. Here, too, the oak needs time to integrate, but tha shouldn’t be an issue, as readers should not plan on opening bottles anytime soon. A creamy, layered finish laced with expressive blue and black fruits rounds things out in style. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2032.

I was quite taken with these new and upcoming releases from Todd Anderson and his team headed by Assistant Winemaker Robert Hunt. A number of these wines showed quite a bit better than they did last year. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based Eloge and the Cabernets Sauvignons are the highlights among the reds. Sadly, long-time winemaker Mac Sawyer passed away earlier this year, something that was quite a shock, as he seemed fine just the last time I saw him just a few months prior. There is one change to the range in that the wine previously known as the Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon is now called Signature. Either way, the 2009 and 2010 are both superb." - Antonio Galloni (Dec 2012)

Tasting Notes from the Winemaker:
Our premiere vintage of Beaulieu Vineyard Beaurouge showcases winemaking artistry in the blending of grape varietals and appellations to make a layered, fruit-forward wine. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon form the core, with opulent blackberry, plum and chocolate–cherry truffle expression. The Merlot fills out the midpalate with plush texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure. Zinfandel, with its dash of black pepper, and Syrah add deep red-fruit notes and spice. Petite Sirah, Touriga, and Mourvèdre deepen the wine’s inky color, while Carignane gives hints of strawberry, Grenache adds dark raspberry and bay leaf, and Sangiovese enlivens the wine with vibrant wild-cherry notes. A little splash of Petit Verdot completes the blend with a hint of violet.

Tasting Notes: The color is quite striking, with the brilliant red ruby hue hinting at the luscious fruit to come. The aromas are abundant with bright cherry, cranberry and brown spice, reminiscent of warm cinnamon toast topped with plum jam. On the palate, the bright cherry opens the show, then evolves into a lush, sweetly spiced plum pudding, coating the mouth with a velvety richness. The acidity is as vibrant as the color, lifting the medley of fruit to lavish heights and augmenting the spicy tones. The wine then develops an intense mineral note, adding yet another dimension, lending way to silky tannins and a lengthy finish that will leave you wanting more.

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
“The gorgeous 2007 Syrah Mr. Smith exhibits aromas of acacia flowers, crushed rocks, blueberries, and blackberries, a beautiful, well-delineated, vibrant mouthfeel, and refreshing, zesty length. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

The well-known Sashi Moorman is the winemaking talent behind the wines of Piedrasassi. These two cuvees, both blends from two terrific vineyards, the James Berry and Heart Stone sites, are aged completely in demi-muids.” –Robert Parker (Aug 2009)

94 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"(100% syrah from the James Berry vineyard) Glass-staining purple. Deep, smoky blackberry and blueberry on the nose, with notes of Indian spices, tobacco and incense adding complexity. Sweet floral qualities come up on the palate, joining lush dark berry and cherry compote flavors. A tangy mineral element adds spine and drives the long, sappy, extremely long finish, which echoes the spice notes. Very pure syrah with the balance to age but the sheer fruit to enjoy right now." - Josh Raynolds (Nov/Dec '09)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast (2010 vintage):
"This is bone dry, with lots of zesty acidity and flavors of sour cherry candy, pomegranate and persimmon, with a mushroomy earthiness. It should change over the next four years, although not necessarily improving. Try pairing it with steak, lamb or a rich cut of ahi tuna." - SH (9/1/2012)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2010 vintage):
"All of the parts haven't yet come together: The oak, acidity, fruit and tannins hover around, but they're not quite completely harmonious yet. Still, it's very rich, with a massive black-cherry core. It seems to have all the components for a little time in the cellar." - S.H. (9/1/2012)
