92 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"($50; equal parts sangiovese, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah) Very dark ruby with a deep purple core. Sultry, almost musky nose, with hints of vanilla and wildflower. Intensely flavored and brooding, with notes of plum jam, cassis, Mediterranean herbs and mint resonating on the palate, followed by graphite and tobacco on the substantial finish. Shows excellent tannic grip. Though surrounded by Bolgheri neighbors who vinify primarily Bordeaux-styled blends, Satta has believed from the start in the quality of sangiovese in this region. His wines certainly uphold this view." - Edward Beltrami (Jul/Aug 2003)

92 Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"The 2013 Chianti Classico I Bastioni is terrific. Bright red berry, rose petal, mint and anise are some of the signatures in a refined Chianti Classico that exemplifies the style of wine that is typical of the northern reaches of the appellation. The 2012 also shows the potential at Collazzi, which appears to be considerable. Merlot and Malvasia Nera round out the blend. This is a jewel of a wine from the Frescobaldi family." - Antonio Galloni (Sep 2015)

100 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2009 La Mission-Haut-Brion stood out as one of the most exceptional young wines I had ever tasted from barrel, and its greatness has been confirmed in the bottle. A remarkable effort from the Dillon family, this is another large-scaled La Mission that tips the scales at 15% alcohol. A blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (47% of each) and the rest Cabernet Franc, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a magnificent bouquet of truffles, scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, subtle smoke and spring flowers. The wine’s remarkable concentration offers up an unctuous/viscous texture, a skyscraper-like mouthfeel, sweet, sumptuous, nearly over-the-top flavors and massive density. Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime La Mission-Haut-Brion, the 2009 will take its place alongside the many great wines made here since the early 1920s. The good news is that there are nearly 6,000 cases of the 2009. It should last for 50-75+ years. Given the wine’s unctuosity and sweetness of the tannin, I would have no problem drinking it in about 5-6 years. The final blend was 47% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc." - Robert Parker (Aug 2012)

97 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of blue fruits, blackberries, tile and lead pencil. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh, bright finish. Layered and intense with white-pepper and salt undertones. Love the finish to this racy young wine. Beautiful blue fruits! Drink in 2020 and onwards. From biodynamic grapes." - (May 23, 2018)

98 Points - James Suckling:
"Love the aromas to this young red with blackcurrants, sage, cinnamon and five-spice character. Changes all the time. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with a ripe and rich tannin backbone that gives form and beauty to the ripe and beautiful fruit. Tight and very long. Approachable now but will reward more in five to six years. A classic Sassicaia." (Jan 2018)

Notes from the Producer:
Perfect exposure and the unique composition of volcanic soil allows us to produce exceptional grapes from our vineyard on the Gemola hill, mostly planted with Merlot together with a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc. Gemola is the flagship of Vignalta wines and with it we receive the highest awards. For this wine we reserve special care: from the vineyard through the winemaking and aging process. It is surely one of the finest Italian Merlots showing well in the international marketplace.

92 Points - Antonio Galloni:
"Keenan's 2014 Merlot is a very pretty wine that shows the more translucent side of Merlot. Lifted, bright and articulate, the 2014 offers lovely finesse in its red-toned fruit and floral aromatics. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later given its mid-weight structure." (Dec 2016)
