Wine & Spirits Magazine - 93 Points:
"From Finca Ygay, one of the great estates of Rioja Alta, this wine is particularly concentrated due to April frosts, which reduced the crop to 60 percent of normal. The Gran Reserva Especial has historically been aged for decades at the bodega; this vintage, released after eight years, is still tight and closed. But even when it's first poured, the wine's sophistication shows in the firm mesh of the structure. It expands as it takes on air, developing the ease and give that makes this 2000 delicious to drink now, a spicy red for thick-cut lamb chops." (12/08)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 91 Points:
"Dark red. Alluring aromas of redcurrant, cherry, cigar box, licorice and underbrush, with a light touch of vanilla. A silky midweight with expansive red fruit and musky herb flavors framed and supported by bright acidity and dusty tannins. Finishes suave and sweet, with excellent breadth and persistence. This has the balance to cellar but is utterly delicious now." -Josh Raynolds (July/August 2007)

"Bright red. Fresh red berry and spice aromas suggest a higher percentage of garnacha. Suave, energetic red berry flavors stain the palate, nicely braced by tangy mineral and spice qualities. The finish repeats the red fruit note and hangs on tenaciously." -Josh Raynolds, July 2009

2004 RECEIVED 100 POINTS FROM ROBERT PARKER!

"Termanthia is the pinnacle of Tinta de Toro. Aromas of wild blackberry, crude oil, forest floor and truffles are just now showing themselves, while the tight, tannic palate is full of black plum, blackberry and bitter chocolate flavors. Espresso and roast meat notes grace the dark, jam-packed finish, and as a whole this is one bold, boisterous wine. Best in 2011 thru 2013. Only 531 cases." -Wine Enthusiast Magazine

This rich red brims with ripe, fresh flavors of blackberry and cassis, backed by toasty chocolate and dried spice notes that caress the palate and linger on the finish. Plush yet structured, in the modern style. Drink now through 2014. 1,000 cases imported. –TM, Feb. '10

Case Pricing = $10.99 per bottle (minimum 12 bottle purchase)

Corcovo, which means a deer bound, is 100% Cencibel and aged in 100% new American oak for 8 months. Corcovo's production is always between 4,000 - 5,000 cases yearly and is aged in a special cellar 12 meters below ground. This enables the wine to capture fresh fruit flavors as well as subtle nuances from the oak.

Nice bing cherry red color, medium dark. Fresh and fruity (blackberry/raspberry) on the nose - a pleasant departure from the overripe sensations often found in Valdepeñas reds. There's mineral, spice and just a hint of oak. The palate confirms its clean freshness and fruitiness, with well defined yet smooth tannins and excellent length. Excellent with game, cheese and red meats.

"The 2004 Crianza has a toasty, slightly roasted bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, spice box, and mineral. On the palate the wine exhibits ample ripe fruit, a firm structure, good balance, and a lengthy finish. Give it 2-3 years to evolve and drink it through 2018." -February 2008

Bodegas Matarredonda Juan Rojo Toro [Tempranillo] 2004 (Toro, Spain)
Retail Price: $25.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $22.99
You Save $2.01

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 91 Points:
"The 2004 Juan Rojo was aged for 8 months in French and American oak. Opaque purple-colored, the nose exhibits lots of spice, mineral, scorched earth, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied, structured wine with layers of fruit, intense flavors, and 4-6 years of aging potential. This well-made Toro will be at its best from 2014-2029.

Bodegas Matarredonda, with 60 acres of Tempranillo vines, was founded in 2000 by Alfonso Sanz Rojo. The Libranza bottling is made from pre-phylloxera 100- to 140-year-old vines while the Juan Rojo uses Tempranillo from 80+-year-old vines." -Jay Miller, Aug. '08
