Full and pleasing, with miles of red fruit and a very spicy middle. “Dionysos” is worthy of the highest praise and devotion, a red blend that will inspire wild revelry twice over—once for its persistent, juicy flavor and twice for its amazing value. Vanilla spice and fresh tannins converge on a full finish. A bouquet of purple flowers and candied licorice mixes with notes of kirsch and baking spices on the expressive nose, a delightful signature of this outstanding vintage. Sexy and supple suggestions of dark chocolate and black/red fruits flood the palate; there’s a rich, textured quality to the wine that fills the mouth with a sensation of silk—reminiscent of the estate’s top “Reserve” cru. Structured but not too muscled; layered and lively on the tongue. One of our best selections yet! A blend of 80% Grenache, 13% Syrah and 7% Mourvèdre, pulled from Caillou's rustic walled vineyards—if you take a look at the appellation map, there's no doubt that this luscious Côtes du Rhône is really a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Bright ruby. Dark berries and kirsch on the nose, with hints of smoky minerals and garrigue adding complexity. Sweet dark berry flavors are given spine by juicy acidity and pick up notes of candied flowers and cola on the back half. Smoothly blends depth and energy, with good mineral snap to penetrating cherry and cassis flavors on the long, spicy finish." - Stephen Tanzer (Jan/Feb 2010)

Philippe Gimel "Saint Jean du Barroux" l'Oligocene [Grenache] 2005 (Cotes du Ventoux, Southern Rhone, France) - Robert Parker [91] - Wine Spectator [90]
Retail Price: $30.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $22.99

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 91 Points:
"The 2005 Cotes de Ventoux is a gorgeous blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Carignan and Cinsault. The wine's bouquet is reminiscent of a great Cote Rotie even though the Syrah component is small and no Viognier is utilized. Exotic floral aromas intermixed with blackberry and cherry fruit jump from the glass. In the mouth, the wine is soft, velvety, medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant, and exotic. Drink this beauty over the next 4-5 years.

Former pharmacist Philippe Gimel uses a combination of organic and bio-dynamic farming methods in this vineyard."

Coume del Mas Banyuls Blanc 2003 (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Retail Price: $25.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $19.99
You Save $5.01

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Candied lime, pineapple, honeysuckle, and heliotrope rise from the glass of Gard’s 2007 Banyuls Blanc. In the mouth, this offers creamy richness, ripe pineapple, vanilla, and persistent floral profusion, finishing with a pure, long, though quite candied impression.

Philippe and Nathalie Gard (with consultation from Claude Gros) are crafting extroverted and at times perhaps somewhat exaggerated wines from their terraced old vines. He came here a decade ago from the Auvergne, and soon began assembling the parcels that after 2004 would become Coume del Mas. The name comes from the steeply-walled interior valley stretching toward the Tour Madeloc peak, but Gard also has vineyards along the coast and others facing south. He recently started a second domaine, about which see under “Mas Christine." - David Schildknecht (6/2009)
Coume del Mas "Quintessence" Banyuls [Grenache] 2003 (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Retail Price: $50.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $25.99
You Save $24.01

This wine is from very low-yielding old vines on our best sites. Severe selection and a long ferment extract the optimum flavours for this profound and ageworthy cuvée, which spends a year in oak casks before bottling.

The Quintessence is incredibly rich and complex, with perfect ripeness of fruit and a formidable tannin structure. Whilst apporachable young, it will be intriguing to see how this wine ages.
Bonny Doon Vineyard
Bonny Doon Vineyard "Le Cigare Volant" [Red Blend] 2006 (Central Coast, California) [375ml HALF-BOTTLE]
Retail Price: $19.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $10.99
You Save $8.01

A blend of syrah, grenache, cinsault with just a soupçon of mourvèdre and carignane, make for a bright and wonderfully gamey wine. Very youthful with toasty notes of cherry, birch, sassafras and pomegranate. Pair this racey red with a bloomsdale spinach salad with sherry vinaigrette garnished with carpaccio of tuna or beef. Speaking of beef, a rare steak in any number of variations (tri-tip,  hanger, New York, filet) would be quite delish. But more exotic fare such as chicken tikka masala or Tandoori lamb chops will also work wonderfully well. While the zesty ’06 is excellent right now, decanting or aging it for 2-3 more years would be all to the good.
Figueirasse Gris de Gris Rose 2009 (France)
Retail Price: $15.00
Artisan Wine Depot Price: $10.99
You Save $4.01

Made for summer and fresh seafood. A pale pink sunrise in the glass,
this rosé reminds of framboise, ripe blood peaches, fresh buttery pie
crust and cherry juice in its aromas. Very expressive! The mouth is a
wave of fresh flowers and pink fruits, with suggestions of rose water
and white pepper. Figueirasse makes its home near the Camargue delta
along the southern French coast, and its terroir is almost exclusively
sand. These unique soils give the wine both a bit of texture in the
mouth as well as a sea-kissed, mineral freshness. Orange zest and more
white pepper offer a lively kick to the finish. A very unique blend of
30% Cincault, 20% Grenache Gris, 40% Grenache Noir and 10% Grenache
Blanc.
